Senior Tax Accountant - Contemporary Staffing : Job Details

Job Title: Staff Tax Accountant Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Tax Accountant to join our client and play a vital role in supporting their finance and tax operations. This hybrid, permanent/direct-hire position based near St. Petersburg, FL, focuses on both general accounting and indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, contributing to financial accuracy, regulatory adherence, and strategic decision-making. Compensation:

• $105,000 annually, depending on experience

Work Schedule:

• Monday to Friday, standard business hours
• Hybrid schedule: 2 days in-office (Tuesday and Wednesday), 3 days remote

Key Responsibilities of the Staff Tax Accountant:

• Prepare and review general ledger account reconciliations, including deferred revenue, leases, and accruals
• Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and financial reporting
• Generate and analyze cash flow forecasts and financial statements
• Assist with audit preparation and coordination with external auditors
• Manage the preparation and filing of U.S. Sales & Use tax returns, Canadian GST/HST/PST filings, property taxes, and business licenses
• Maintain state tax registrations and exemption certificates
• Evaluate product taxability and apply correct tax codes in accounting systems
• Resolve tax issues and manage tax notices and audits
• Partner with external tax preparers for income tax filings
• Maintain and improve internal tax systems and tools, such as Avalara

Qualifications and Skills for the Staff Tax Accountant:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA preferred
• 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in indirect tax compliance
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and Canadian tax regulations
• Advanced Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP, SUMIF, pivot tables)
• Experience with NetSuite and Avalara a plus
• Strong attention to detail, time management, and analytical skills
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
• Experience in SaaS or multi-entity environments preferred
• Familiarity with tax implications of digital products is beneficial
