Join a team that's naturally committed to the environment.Your OpportunityStantec is seeking a senior level Structural Engineer capable of leveraging their expertise in engineering design requirements to support the implementation of resilient building codes, standards, and policies in communities throughout the US. The new staff member will provide technical input, project management, building code analyses, resilience policy review, and technical writing for a diverse team of engineers, architects, building officials, scientists and planners. The new hire should be capable of proactive project management both internally with staff, across private and NGO partners, and directly with local, state and federal clients. The role will be responsible for final delivery of products that are on budget, on time, and meet or exceed client expectations. This role includes coordination with clients on deliverable timelines and facilitation of technical reviews with SMEs. The new hire will be responsible for adhering to internal and client protocols for periodic project reporting, continuous safety assessments, and assist with the mentoring of staff. The new staff member will work with other Stantec managers to assign staffing priorities, respond to RFPs, and evaluate business development opportunities. This hire should have a strong technical research background with the ability to summarize findings in a succinct and thorough manner which can be understood by other technically proficient individuals and, at times, laymen as well. Strong communications skills including PowerPoint presentations, report preparations, and technical emails are required. A general interest in resilience policy, climate change, hazard mitigation, emergency management and building science is preferred.The new staff member will focus on projects that implement resilient engineering designs through policy whitepapers, trainings, and management of capacity & capabilities grants. This position includes intermittent opportunities for engineering design, as desired.Position can sit anywhere in the United StatesYour Key ResponsibilitiesEvaluating the economic benefits and loss-avoidance impacts of hazard-resistant building codes, specifications, and/or standardsResearching existing adopted codes, specifications, and/or standards for communities throughout the US to identify opportunities for increased resilienceResearching technical government and private sector documents on building codes, insurance, and mutual aidProviding interpretation and trainings on engineering requirements related to building codes, natural hazards, and future conditionsSummarizing technical documents/requirements into layman's terms through written and verbal communicationManaging the preparation of technical reports and presentations which summarize findingsDesignating tasks and responsibilities to internal staff, as well as partners and subconsultantsProviding technical writing and formatting reviews of key deliverablesExecuting project management requirements including project reporting and safety assessmentsContributing to RFPs and business development.Your Capabilities And CredentialsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsWilling to be a team player who leads a diverse team of professionalsAbility to work flexible hours to respond to immediate project needsPreferred Qualifications:Experience with ASCE 7 minimum design loads for buildings and other structures and ASCE 24 flood resistant design and constructionKnowledge of CBC Chapter 7a, IWUIC, NFPA, and relevant fire hazard codes and standardsBackground in safe shelter design and best available refuge area assessmentsFamiliarity with building inspections including property conditions assessments and forensic investigationsExperienced in codes and standards development process including committee participationUnderstanding of Mutual Aid processes including EMAC and IMACBackground in hazard mitigation grant programsEducation And ExperienceBachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering or a related B.S. degreeLicensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to gain licensure within 2 yearsMinimum of 6-10 years' experiencePreferred Qualifications:Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Project ManagerThis description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.About StantecStantec is a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
