Senior Structural Designer As Senior Structural Designer at Pratt Industries - Cedar Hill, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Sales Representatives by designing custom structural and graphic packaging solutions. You'll be responsible for developing innovative packaging concepts, producing samples and prototypes, and ensuring quality and production feasibility. Key Duties and Success Factors
  • Safety & Compliance: Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, with a strong emphasis on safety and good housekeeping practices.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee the creation of packaging prototypes/samples to assist Sales Account Representatives in sales promotions, ensuring high quality and accuracy.
  • Operational Efficiency: Formulate and communicate ideas for new accounts or products, analyzing customer needs and production feasibility. Create production specifications from prototypes, drawings, etc.
  • Training & Development: Analyze changes in the industry and research innovations in packaging equipment; apply new developments and make recommendations for style/board weight updates.
  • Reporting & Maintenance: Produce samples efficiently on a CAD table or by hand.
  • Flexibility & Teamwork: Work individually or collaboratively with cross-functional teams and resources during research, ideation, evaluation, and validation stages of all design solutions. Accompany Sales Representatives on occasion to present new products or designs to customers or prospects. Responsible for meeting deadlines, which may require overtime.
  • Technical Skills: Utilize proficient skills with ArtiosCAD, Kongsberg table, or similar tools to develop innovative and creative packaging solutions with a focus on manufacturability.
What You'll Need to be Successful
  • Experience:
    • Required: High school diploma or GED.
    • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Highly Preferred: 5+ years of experience in corrugated packaging or a related field; experience in a corrugated production/manufacturing facility; exposure to package testing and methodologies (UN/DOT, ISTA, etc.).
  • Basic Troubleshooting: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret a variety of technical instructions.
  • Skills:
    • Must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic and strong organizational skills.
    • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment.
    • Flexible, fast learner, who can handle multiple projects, solve problems, and embrace challenges.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
    • Good communication skills with customers and internal Sales/Production/Customer Service staff.
    • TOPS Software experience is preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, sit, walk, push/pull, and lift/carry 10lbs-50lbs. Must successfully pass Company pre-employment screening.
  • Work Environment: Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment if required, which can be noisy, dirty, dusty, and subject to hot and cold temperatures.

  • Personal Growth: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
