Job Description :

Product, Technology Development, and Program Management (60%)

  • Design and deploy new thermal and thermoelectric products with limited manager supervision to meet or exceed customer technical requirements.
  • Conceive of and perform thermal-mechanical design / modeling analyses using internal TE design software and Ansys Mechanical.
  • Verify model and design results for accuracy through first-law principles and empirical testing.
  • Manage assigned projects independently to ensure adherence to delivery dates and budgets.
  • Utilize application tools (spreadsheets, modeling tools, product management processes) effectively to meet schedule targets.
  • Follow the Product Development Process and maintain project statuses in the Phase Gate development tool.
  • Participate in internal and external Quality audits.
  • Identify and communicate technical and schedule risks proactively, working to resolve issues before they arise.
  • Propose and champion product-related technology development projects.
  • Communicate design and testing results via reports, memos, presentations, and training sessions.
  • Provide project status updates during weekly engineering meetings.
  • Support team members in completing tasks independently and on time.
  • Follow and update internal engineering design guidelines as needed.
  • Contribute to improving engineering design tools.
  • Assist in identifying causes and proposing resolutions for Return Goods and Failure Analysis issues.
  • Respond to product reliability and qualification requests, author reliability reports/data, and manage testing.
  • Participate in problem-solving sessions with cross-functional teams for complex issues.
  • Engage in manufacturing floor activities during prototype builds and testing.
  • Develop hands-on familiarity with manufacturing processes (e.g., dicing, metallization, soldering) and laboratory equipment (e.g., thermal chambers, IR cameras).
  • Coordinate with Procurement and external suppliers to ensure parts meet technical and quality standards.

Business Operations and Product Sales (30%)

  • Develop, review, and publish costing for new NPI products.
  • Support sales through opportunity requests, customer calls, and visits.
  • Travel nationally and internationally to support manufacturing and customer needs.
  • Communicate professionally with external customers, representing Coherent positively.
  • Promote high standards of ethics, professionalism, leadership, and quality.
  • Collaborate effectively with our Vietnam manufacturing team and Asian Design Center, including participating in scheduled calls.

Intellectual Property (5%)

  • Apply standard technologies to new products and document developments for patent considerations.
  • Develop knowledge of product performance differences and publish technical reports.

Personal Development (5%)

  • Review and update yearly goals with your manager.
  • Participate in training, conferences, and workshops.
  • Follow company policies, especially regarding ergonomics and housekeeping.

Education & Experience

  • Technical Degree, BS or higher in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) or related fields.
  • At least 5+ years in thermal management design, analysis, and related disciplines; experience with thermoelectric preferred.
  • Experience in product design, project management, and working within global teams.
  • Knowledge of quality tools (FMEA, Root Cause Analysis) and export compliance (ITAR, EAR).

Skills & Other Requirements

  • Proficiency in MS Office, 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred), modeling software (ANSYS preferred), and project management tools.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Working Conditions

  • Work may range from office to manufacturing environments.
  • Comfort working around chemicals and machinery, following safety protocols.

Physical and Safety Requirements

  • Ability to remain stationary or stand/sit for prolonged periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and communicate effectively.
  • Attend safety training and follow health and safety procedures, including PPE use.
