Position Summary

Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE) is an independent, nonprofit organization merging scientific knowledge and proven practice to create solutions that improve the health, safety and well-being of individuals, communities, and nations around the world. We are dedicated to reducing health disparities and inequities through community-based, participatory research, implementation science, and rigorous evaluation. Our scientists examine risk factors and outcomes from the micro through to macro levels, with a goal of understanding the specific impacts of policies on health and transforming public policy.

PIRE is seeking senior level investigators and evaluators to join our Southwest Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This opportunity is open to senior level investigators and evaluators who are positioned to substantially contribute to the Southwest Center's growing portfolio, including research focused on alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, public health policy, eliminating health disparities, health care services and systems change, criminal justice, international health and development, educational research and program evaluation, and state and community partnerships and evaluation. We welcome all applicants and are particularly seeking applicants that will expand our health equities research, with special emphasis on mixed-methods research and a focus on minority, disparate, or underserved populations (e.g., American Indian/Alaska Native, women, rural, or LGBTQ populations).

At PIRE we have excellent health coverage, retirement opportunities and flexible telecommuting and work arrangements available to support our nationally recognized panel of independent scientists.

Benefits Overview:
  • 3.5-7 weeks of accrued PTO during the first year
  • Company provided Retirement Plan
  • Company provided Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment of $100k
  • Company provided Short- and Long-Term Disability
  • Medical, Dental and Vision coverage

PIRE has a strong commitment to research dissemination and moving science to practice and practice to science. The implementation of our work is demonstrated in peer-reviewed journal articles, reports for government and lay audiences and professional presentations. Documentation of PIRE's capabilities and work in these areas can be found on PIRE's website (www.pire.org).

PIRE is an entrepreneurial and self-funded research organization. Independence and freedom as a scientist come with the responsibility of seeking and securing one's own funding. As part of your CV and introduction, please share a brief description of your research interests and potential funders.

Successful applicants will be expected to pursue their own research while collaborating with other PIRE scientists in areas of mutual interest. PIRE is prepared to assist researchers who submit applications with startup funding, administrative and IRB support, and collaborative scientific support. Employment is contingent upon successful awards.

We invite a CV and letter of introduction from senior level investigators who have:

  • Current or recent funding from NIH, CDC and/or other federal agencies that fund scientific research,
  • A track record of relevant publications in high impact journals, and
  • Strong skills in research collaboration, project management, and proposal development.

We look forward to talking with you about your interests and how your research can grow with PIRE.
