Program Overview

The program, led by Peraton Labs with external infrastructure support, conducts advanced research on topics including cybersecurity, RF solutions, and quantum communications. Focus areas include developing tools for detecting cyber-attacks, enhancing network resilience, and improving small-form factor sensor systems, with an emphasis on technologies like machine learning and software-defined networking.

About The Role

Peraton Labs is seeking a skilled and experienced Application Prototype Engineer to support fully cleared research efforts for our Maryland-based IC customer. You will work on cutting-edge research and development projects, developing and maintaining research prototype application systems ranging from analytics to real-time systems and business solutions. You will collaborate within our research team to create and refine prototypes based on documented requirements.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Analyzing customer requirements to define prototype performance standards.
  • Designing and coding new software or modifying existing software to add features and improve functionality.
  • Debugging prototypes and resolving defects.
  • Integrating existing software into new or modified systems or environments.
  • Developing and executing test procedures for prototype components.
  • Creating and implementing data queries for databases or data repositories.
  • Recommending improvements for documentation and development processes.
  • Designing or implementing complex algorithms, database interfaces, or queries.
  • Providing input on system designs, including hardware/software tradeoffs and the use of COTS/GOTS components.
  • Collaborating with system and hardware engineers to derive requirements and meet operational specifications.
  • Leading research teams, delegating tasks, and monitoring performance to meet project goals.
  • This position requires full-time on-site work in College Park, MD or Laurel, MD.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

    • 12 years of application prototype development experience with a BS in Computer Science or related discipline, 10 years with a MS, or 8 years with a Ph.D. An additional 4 years of experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
    • Expertise in programming languages such as Python, C, Java, or Go.
    • Familiarity with GitHub, Agile methodologies, Jenkins, and software development practices.
    • Hands-on experience in designing algorithms, database interfaces, and complex data queries.
    • Ability to lead and collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients.
    • This position requires a current/active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.

    Additional Desired Qualifications

    • Experience in research and development environments.
    • Knowledge of hardware/software tradeoffs and COTS/GOTS integration.
    • Experience with quality control processes for prototypes.
