Job Title: Senior Radiation Protection Technician (RCT 4)

Location: Los Alamos, New Mexico, USA

Clearance Required: Must have the ability to obtain

Citizenship Requirement: U.S. Citizenship Required

Work Schedule: This position may require 24/7 coverage, including rotating shift/weekend schedules. Shift differential may apply.

Salary: $48-$54/hr + Full time Benefits, and Per Diem!

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and capable of obtaining and maintaining any required security clearance.

This role involves supporting high-hazard radiological work and requires demonstrated experience in operational health physics and radiological controls.

Applicants unable or unwilling to work rotating shifts, weekends, or in physically demanding environments (including outdoors or with PPE/respirators) will not be considered.

Impact

As a Senior Radiation Protection Technician (RCT 4), you will serve as a primary technical point of contact for radiological work planning, coordination, and execution in dynamic and challenging environments. Your role ensures safety, regulatory compliance, and mission success in critical operations, with your contributions directly impacting project and team outcomes.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Serve as subject matter expert for development of Radiological Work Control Packages (RWCPs)
  • Provide leadership and tactical decision-making during high-hazard radiological activities
  • Coordinate work area resources and ensure compliance with radiological controls
  • Anticipate and address safety and operational issues
  • Mentor and lead other RCTs, potentially including technical supervision
  • Elevate unresolved issues to appropriate management
  • Ensure compliance with 10 CFR 835 and RP-1 priorities
  • Demonstrate excellence in safety through actions and communication
  • Work may occur outside normal hours and require wearing PPE including respiratory gear

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 4–6 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Extensive experience supporting radiological activities and applying operational health physics
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments and variable schedules

Desired Skills

  • Associate's degree or graduation from a technical institution
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and coordinate complex operations
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Experience in developing creative and safe solutions under pressure

Education and Experience Requirements

This position typically requires a high school diploma and four to six years of related experience. Additional training, certification, or education—such as associate degrees or technical school graduation—is desirable.
