Senior R&D Chemist
Rhode, a line of curated skincare essentials formulated for various skin types with high-performance ingredients, is seeking a Senior Research & Development Chemist. This role involves formulating innovative personal care products and managing cross-functional projects. Reporting to the Director of Research and Development, you will be responsible for research, formulation, and project management.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work independently on formulation projects based on product briefs from the Product Development team.
- Prepare batches of formulations and create revisions based on testing feedback.
- Adjust batches to meet formula specifications and maintain detailed records.
- Prepare and log samples for submission, calculate specifications, and create CofAs.
- Conduct stability testing and maintain documentation.
- Order raw materials, maintain storage, and organize vendor documentation.
- Maintain formulation software and prepare samples for third-party testing.
- Validate formulas created by other chemists and contribute to laboratory operations.
- Calibrate lab equipment and supervise scale-up batches at contract manufacturers.
- Coordinate with Product Development, Operations, Quality, and Regulatory teams.
- Assist other laboratory staff as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a formulation/bench chemist in personal care, with OTC experience preferred.
- Proficiency with mixers, homogenizers, viscometers, and pH meters.
- Strong knowledge of raw material functionality, ingredient listing, GMP, and formulation software.
- Experience with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, communicate technical info clearly, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel to manufacturing sites and supervise scale-up batches.
Office Requirement
- Work five days a week in our Santa Monica, California lab.
Compensation
- $120,000 - $150,000 annually.
