The ideal candidate for this position will be organized, detailed and possess the ability to adapt to change in a collaborative, fast paced environment. We invite all qualified candidates to apply.Essential FunctionsServes as the Unit Manager of the Bureau of Water (BOW), Division of Water Pollution Control (DWPC), FieldOperations Section (FOS) for the Des Plaines Regional Office:Serves as a full-line supervisor:Directs, plans and implements field inspections in accordance with Agency program commitments to and inaccordance with U.S. EPA regulations:Actively participates in resolving instances of noncompliance with state or federal laws by providing technicaladvice and other forms of compliance assistance:Develops and maintains knowledge of Illinois EPA programs and their relationship to FOS programs:Attends training courses and utilizes training resources to develop and maintain technical skill, water pollutioncontrol knowledge, and other work-related fields.Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably with the scope of the duties enumeratedabove.Minimum QualificationsRequires Knowledge, skills, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college.Requires prior experience equivalent to four years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or businessorganization related to the environmental field.Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)Prefers at least (4) four years of experience in developing and/or implementing water pollution control policies andprograms.Prefers at least (4) four years of experience in compliance, enforcement, inspection, or permitting ofwater pollution control facilities.Prefers at least (4) four years of experience applying State and Federal rules and regulations.Prefers at least (4) four years of experience in communicating with all levels of stakeholders in an organization, bothinternal and external.Prefers at least (2) years experience supervising personnel.Prefers the ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgment in defining and evaluating problems of anoperational or procedural nature.Prefers the ability to utilize a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access and Excel software.Conditions of EmploymentRequires a valid and current appropriate drivers' license.As required by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120, this position will be required to take (within 90 days of employment) and maintainworking knowledge of (8-hour annual refresher) and/or certification to ensure position is up to date with laws, rules andregulations to maintain compliance with IL Department of Labor Occupational Safety Regulations: 24-hour OSHAHAZWOPER training.Requires the ability to travel in performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime includingscheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
