JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint program of the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene responsible for promoting the health of 1.3 million school aged children enrolled in approximately 1,800 public and non-public schools in New York City. This is achieved through a combination of public health initiatives, case management, education, and direct clinical services.

DUTIES WILLINCLUDEBUTNOTBELIMITED TO:

Coordinate with the Office of Operations to develop and track budget spending analyses to maximize fiscal resources supporting services provided by the OSH Medical Unit.

Conducts data analysis to drive program quality and performance improvements (QI/PI).

Manage operation and special projects in conjunction with the Office of Operations in support of Medical Unit operations

Assist with School Health public health investigations.

Identifies and engages individual experts, as well as informational resources that can help frame and advance the Medical Unit's work on key trends or emerging issues.

Interpret and analyze data for the development of contracts, policy recommendations and grant proposals

Support the Medical Unit team for ad-hoc projects, assignments, and tasks, when needed - Works closely and collaborates with DOE and community health partner to help inform program initiatives. Creates and maintains effective lines of communication and cooperation and joint efforts with these entities

Prepares proposal, grants, and other documents for programmatic improvement and expansion

Manage data requests from DOHMH as well as NYC DOE and helps advance policy initiatives.

Supervises assigned staff.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Expert level Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail and strong project management skills; with good follow-through to complete

assignments within specified time frames, and managing multiple, competing projects.

  • Flexible multi-tasker - know how to prioritize and successfully carry out multiple assignments simultaneously; can quickly adapt and create new

work plans when a project takes a new direction

Qualifications

  • For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
  • To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:

  • A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or

  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in 2 above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in 1 and 2 above.

    Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
