Salary : $104,582.40 Annually Location : Albuquerque, NM Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 2600003 Department: City Council Division: CL-Council Svcs Opening Date: 07/09/2025 Closing Date: 8/20/2025 11:59 PM Mountain Bargaining Unit: NU Position Summary This position performs a wide range of professional engineering duties in support of assigned projects, including traffic engineering, transportation, street maintenance, storm drainage, construction of public buildings, and recreational facilities. The role ensures the cost-effectiveness of City engineering projects and requires engagement with elected officials, public meetings, and community members. This is an unclassified at-will position. Job Descriptions are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Supervision Received and Exercised Receive general direction from higher-level staff. May provide functional and technical leadership to project management teams. Essential and Supplemental Functions ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below)
  • Execute a broad range of engineering tasks in support of Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), including traffic, transportation, stormwater, street maintenance, and public facility construction.
  • Review and approve plans and designs for traffic systems, storm drainage, bridges, public buildings, and recreation facilities.
  • Enforce the cross-connection control ordinance; inspect suspected violations and recommend corrective action.
  • Oversee transportation improvement projects, Complete Streets designs, and Green Stormwater Infrastructure initiatives.
  • Coordinate environmental projects and construction phases, including meetings, reports, and contractor negotiations.
  • Develop solutions to traffic and transportation issues; collaborate with developers and engineers.
  • Evaluate and approve plats, site development, and other proposals.
  • Investigate public safety concerns related to traffic and provide responses.
  • Identify and coordinate right-of-way and easement requirements.
  • Manage drainage construction and review plans for ordinance compliance.
  • Investigate and resolve drainage-related complaints.
  • Coordinate construction activities and documentation with City project managers and contractors.
  • Approve construction plans and drawings; recommend code-compliant revisions.
  • Evaluate engineering designs for cost-effectiveness and recommend modifications.
  • Respond to public inquiries and complaints in a timely, courteous manner.
  • Attend industry group meetings and stay informed about current engineering trends.
  • Coordinate projects with other City divisions and outside agencies.
  • Assist City Councilors with district infrastructure needs.
  • Supplemental Functions
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings and conferences; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of engineering.
  • May lead, train, and review the work of junior engineering or technical staff.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or a related field; and Five (5) years of professional engineering experience; and To include three (3) years of supervisory experience. or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or a related field; and Three (3) years of professional engineering experience; and To include three (3) years of supervisory experience. Additional Requirements:Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's license, or the ability to obtain by the date of hire. Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire. New Mexico Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. Out of state PE licensees must obtain a New Mexico PE license. Required to work flexible hours, including evening meetings and occasional weekend hours. Preferred Knowledge
