The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As a Senior Research Engineer you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Lead the development of a fundamental understanding of the mechanical behavior of 3M materials and products.
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team of application engineers, scientists, and process engineers to enable next-generation products via Multiphysics modeling and simulation
- Develop molecular dynamics informed models of soft materials to guide formulators and engineers in identifying appropriate design spaces
- Support simulation engagements with customers
- Understand, develop, and guide the establishment of new computational tools and systems.
- Initiate and contribute to the analysis and development of intellectual property
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree (completed and verified prior to start)
- Two(2) years of post-doctoral experience in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or Chemistry in a private, public, government or military environment
- Two (2) years of experience in computational chemistry
- One (1) year of experience applying machine learning algorithms to material design spaces
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Experience with python or another programming language
- Experience with coarse graining techniques
- Understanding of high performance compute environment
- Success in working on global teams, close collaboration with customers and capability to both lead and be a member of high-performance teams.
- Fundamental understanding of soft matter physics and mechanical behavior and polymer synthesis/structure
