Job Description

What We Do

At Terabase Energy, we believe that digitalization and automation will drive the next wave of innovation and cost reduction in large-scale solar. To fully unlock this potential, Terabase is developing an interconnected software and construction automation platform. We collaborate with project developers, owners, and engineering & construction firms to support the design, optimization, and construction of large solar projects worldwide. Our team comprises solar industry veterans, newcomers, thought leaders, dreamers, software, electrical, and mechanical engineers, coders, product managers, project managers, and sales and marketing professionals. We are headquartered in Northern California, with offices across the United States and globally.

Position Summary:

Are you a problem-solver passionate about building innovative mechanical solutions to advance clean energy? We are seeking two talented individuals to join our collaborative, fast-paced team focused on developing and enhancing mechanical systems and components to optimize solar utility power plant installations.

In this role, you will be involved in every stage of the product development lifecycle—transforming ideas into engineered solutions that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and scale solar deployment. You will have opportunities to lead design efforts, participate in cross-functional reviews, and make a lasting impact on the clean energy transition.

This is an onsite role in Davis, CA.

Travel up to 25% to customer/vendor sites and R&D facilities along the West Coast may be required, depending on project activities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and install new or modified mechanical systems and components for automation to reduce build time.
  • Iterate designs rapidly to optimize performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of utility-scale solar power plant installation and deployment.
  • Conduct thorough design analysis and validation using sound engineering practices.
  • Manage the complete product development cycle—from concept and design through prototyping, field testing, production drawings, and supplier coordination.
  • Participate in team design reviews and provide technical feedback to colleagues.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers or interns.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Related technical education and at least 8+ years of experience in R&D, innovation, and product development related to Mechatronics/Mechanical product design, industrial automation, robotics, and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in CAD, including 3D modeling and 2D drafting (SolidWorks), and GD&T.
  • Experience with static structural finite element analysis software (ANSYS, ABAQUS, SolidWorks Simulation).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as sheet metal forming, machining, casting, weldments, and injection molding.
  • Understanding of motion control systems, pneumatics/electric actuators, and motor sizing.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to understand all aspects of a design project.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
  • Knowledge of utility-scale solar, solar construction automation, and project execution.
  • Ability to perform structural calculations on metal structures.
  • Experience with prototyping, troubleshooting, and automation/robotic systems.
  • Experience leading product development activities, including FMEA, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Experience with automotive, powersports, construction, heavy machinery, or agricultural equipment.
  • Experience with automated welding and AWS standards.
  • Familiarity with ASCE/SEI 7 is a plus.

If you're interested, we'd love to hear from you! Join our team to shape the future of solar construction and automation. Please apply with an updated resume including your current location and contact information.

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $150,000 annually, influenced by experience, education, and other factors. Additional incentives and benefits, including medical and dental coverage, may be offered.
