Summary (Position Description): BITZER Scroll Inc. is looking for a Senior Laboratory Technician that has a strong mechanical aptitude, is energetic and detail-oriented. In this exciting role, you are collaborating with a team of colleagues from engineering design and development to fabricate, assemble and test prototype compressors.

You will also work together with production assembly and quality to execute a laboratory audit test program on production compressors to ensure conformance to strict performance requirements. Through laboratory development testing and production auditing, you will help us to continually improve and maximize the satisfaction of our customers.

As a senior-level member of the Engineering Lab staff, you will also be expected to assist in training and development of less experienced technicians and engineers. You may also assist in leadership tasks such as work coordination, team communication and cross-departmental activities on a infrequent basis, as dictated by workload and staffing.

Reports To: Engineering Lab Manager

Pay: $25.00 - $34.50 per hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, infrequent overtime

Duties and Tasks:

• Work cross-functionally with design and engineering to fabricate, assemble and test prototype compressors for evaluation of reliability, manufacturability and cost effectiveness.
• Modify components and assemblies using basic laboratory tools (i.e. screwdrivers, torque wrenches, presses, dial indicators, etc.).
• Efficiently and accurately execute compressor assembly and test instructions maintaining meticulously detailed records.
• Conduct compressor tests using test stands and calorimeters that simulate real world HVAC systems.
• Diagnose HVAC system behavior by monitoring and adjusting refrigerant charge levels to insure test parameters are stable.
• Use oscilloscopes, thermocouples, instrumentation and data acquisition systems to gather data.
• Assist laboratory engineer with test equipment maintenance and gage calibration.
• Perform daily housekeeping and organization to maintain a neat and orderly work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong diagnostic skills in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, compressors and components
• Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills
• Strong desire to maintain detailed, meticulous records
• Proficient use of basic hand and power tools to assemble and fabricate with skill and dexterity
• Working knowledge of brazing and electrical wiring
• General knowledge of oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems and instrumentation techniques
• General knowledge of 5S principles and good housekeeping practices
• General knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

Requirements:

• Associates of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Technology with 8 years of experience in HVAC

• High school diploma with 13 years of experience in HVAC
• EPA 608 Universal certification
• Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in mechanical devices; detail-oriented
• Excited to be part of a cross-functional team, self-motivated, energetic and willing to learn

Work Environment:

• You will work in a professional office and engineering test laboratory environment. You will use standard office equipment, basic hand tools, power tools and highly specialized laboratory test equipment.
• You will be on your feet in the engineering test laboratory for the majority of your work day. We will provide you with the appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE).
• You may be required to lift up to 40 pounds.
• There will be limited domestic travel required for training and personal development.

Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, use hands, and reach with hands and arms. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds. This position requires that the employee be on their feet in the laboratory for the majority of the work day.
