It's fun to work in a company where people truly BELIEVE in what they're doing!We're committed to bringing passion and customer focus to the business.Position OverviewThe Senior Corporate Lab Manager will provide operational leadership to the Corporate analytical chemistry, materials testing, product testing, and failure analysis laboratories. This highly motivated Manager will possess a broad knowledge base related to battery testing (lead acid) and materials to provide support to the various battery technologies. This leader's responsibilities will include staffing, training, facilities (lab) management, and providing technical guidance on quality and analytical processes to the multidisciplined team. This position will develop and drive processes, efficiency improvements, and a culture to ensure customers receive world-class testing, communications, and experience. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise in battery technologies with strong leadership skills to manage a dynamic team and ensure the successful execution of projects.Area of FocusThe Corporate Lab is part of the Technology organization responsible for acquiring, compiling, and reporting technical data related to battery materials, product performance, and failure analysis.Responsibilities
  • Develop lab facility and test equipment strategies and best practices to support efficient and cost-effective lab operations while meeting the highest standards of safety, quality, and output.
  • Recruit, retain through mentoring, and define performance expectations for a team of materials scientists, engineers, chemists, and technicians performing routine product, material, and quality testing as well as extremely high priority/rapid response projects.
  • Ensure proper level of staffing, training, and resource coordination to effectively assign laboratory activities to support business needs, forecasted growth, and compliance with regulatory and company policies.
  • Identify and adopt best practices to provide consistently high level of timely accurate measurement, evaluation, and analytical services including technical reports.
  • Generate, maintain, and assign test schedules and equipment utilization and report monthly operational KPIs performance.
  • Interact in a collaborative manner with other company groups to lead the definition, documentation, investigation, execution, and post-analysis of tests at component and system levels.
  • Support customer meetings, inquiries, testing, etc. as needed to support the business.
  • Drive continuous improvement through lean and 6S techniques.
  • Provide data analysis/interpretation, presentation of experimental data, and technical reports.
  • Actively participate in industry standards development and authoring of conference papers.
  • Create an annual budget (operating and capital) and monitor spending on a continuous basis.
  • Review test methods required by industry standards and develop in-house procedures as needed to provide repeatable test practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, metallurgy and/or electrochemistry
  • 7+ years of demonstrated leadership and lab supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in physical and chemical analytics, method development/validation, and quality controls.
  • Prior experience with battery manufacturing and testing of cells and materials.
  • Self-motivated, detailed, proactive person with the ability to work both independently and in a collaborative project-focused environment.
  • Computer competency in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills
