Codeworks is an IT Services firm headquartered in SE Wisconsin, known for our strong commitment to quality and for our direct client relationships.Who We're Looking For:A Senior Java Developer who resides in Wisconsin for a long-term contract role at our direct WI client. This role is mostly remote with rare in-office meetings in Madison, WI (twice/year).OverviewThe Wisconsin Department of Transportation is seeking a Java Developer IV to support the modernization of web applications. This is a hands-on technical role focused on upgrading legacy systems to modern frameworks, containerized environments, and implementing CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.The selected individual will work collaboratively in an Agile environment and provide leadership in software architecture, development best practices, and application design.Key Responsibilities

• Modernize and enhance existing web applications.
• Architect, design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade solutions.
• Implement CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines following industry standards.
• Lead or support application migrations using Spring Boot and Java upgrades.
• Develop modern front-end components using Angular.
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries and PL/SQL stored procedures.
• Develop comprehensive automated testing strategies.
• Support cloud-based deployments and containerization.
• Serve as a mentor and trusted technical advisor to team members.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years: Java/J2EE development
• 5+ years: Spring Boot
• 5+ years: Angular (TypeScript/JavaScript)
• 4+ years: Software architecture/design
• 4+ years: Microservices
• 5+ years: SQL and PL/SQL development (Oracle preferred)
• 5+ years: MVC architecture (e.g., Spring)
• 5+ years: Hybrid and Agile methodologies
• 5+ years: Developing and troubleshooting complex SQL in Java applications
• 4+ years: API development
• 2+ years: Report development using JasperReports

Preferred Qualifications

• 4+ years: AWS cloud-based application development
• 3+ years: DevSecOps practices (e.g., SonarQube)
• 5+ years: Automated testing practices
• 4+ years: Technical leadership and mentoring
• Experience with:
• Java Batch
• JPA
• Liberty, Maven, IntelliJ, Java 21
• GitHub Co-Pilot or similar GenAI tools
• Box APIs
• Application modernization patterns (e.g., lift and shift, strangler)
