The New York City Department of Investigation ( DOI ) is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country, with a mission to combat municipal corruption. It serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent, nonpartisan watchdog for the city government, city agencies, city employees, vendors with city contracts, and entities receiving city funds.

Position Overview

DOI's Squad 1 conducts investigations into corruption, fraud, waste, and other criminal conduct involving the Department of Correction, Department of Probation, and Board of Correction. We are seeking a Senior Investigative Attorney/Assistant Inspector General responsible for planning, managing, and supervising sex crimes investigations, including report drafting and policy recommendations. The role may also involve assisting in complex investigations into fraud, waste, or other criminal activities. The ideal candidate will have experience investigating sexual misconduct and strong legal or policy writing skills.

Additional Requirements

Selected candidates will undergo fingerprinting, a background check, and a review of their consumer credit history, as permitted by NYC law.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Active bar membership in any U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. Virgin Islands
  • At least three years of relevant legal experience after bar admission
Preferred Skills
  • Five or more years leading complex investigations, such as as a prosecutor, forensic auditor, or investigator
  • Experience with sex crimes investigations is highly desirable
  • Strong writing skills; ability to prepare detailed reports and memos; willing to provide a writing sample
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience collaborating with prosecutors on complex cases
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and analytical skills
  • Strong ethics and sound judgment
  • Knowledge of NYC government is a plus but not required
  • Additional Information
