Senior Group Underwriter - Horace Mann : Job Details

Join Horace Mann as a Senior Group Underwriter! We are seeking an analytical and detail-oriented professional who can perform comprehensive risk appraisals to enhance revenue while effectively managing risks. In this role, you will conduct evaluations for traditional group life, disability, and other group insurance products.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct evaluations and rating of new and existing groups based on risk characteristics to ensure premium income corresponds with the group's risk.
• Manage group accounts to boost retention and profitability.
• Oversee timely implementation of rate and benefit changes.
• Stay informed about insurance laws, OCI statutes, and mandated benefits relevant to our offerings.
• Collaborate with various internal and external teams including sales, actuarial, and legal to address coverage amendments.
• Provide informative responses to inquiries from sales personnel and internal departments regarding policy provisions and claims experience.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with agents, brokers, and clients while responding constructively to their inquiries.
• Communicate effectively with reinsurers to ensure compliance with underwriting standards.
• Document underwriting files accurately, including rate calculations and agreements.
• Take initiative in projects and handle moderately complex cases while identifying unusual circumstances that require escalation.
• Assist in mentoring junior underwriting staff as required.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Math, Statistics, or Insurance Business is required.
• Ability for periodic travel may be necessary.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a group life and disability setting is required.
• Solid understanding of underwriting concepts and group insurance methodologies is essential.

Pay Range: $61,900.00 - $91,300.00 annually, depending on experience and location.
