The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees.
DEP's water supply system includes 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes across a 2,000 square mile watershed extending 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT) manages the operation and maintenance of facilities related to sewage treatment within the five boroughs. This includes 14 wastewater treatment plants, sludge dewatering facilities, collection facilities, laboratories, and harbor vessels.
The Bureau seeks a Senior Environmental Program Coordinator to support its environmental initiatives. Under the direction of the Director of Environmental Health and Safety, this role involves leading environmental staff, monitoring regulatory compliance, and reporting on environmental performance and improvements.
Responsibilities include:For Level I: A master's degree in physical, biological, environmental sciences, or public health from an accredited institution.
For Level II and above: A doctorate in an appropriate field with one year of supervisory or research experience, or a master's with three years of full-time research experience, or equivalent education and experience. Candidates must have at least a master's degree and two years of relevant experience. Two years at Level I can substitute for some experience requirements.
Note: Appointments are subject to a minimum one-year probationary period.
