Job Summary:

This position requires exceptional project management skills, field work, and a deep understanding of building systems that impact energy usage. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the NYC Department of Education's (DOE) sustainability goals while performing highly technical duties and coordinating diverse projects. Other related work may also be assigned.

Location:

Our client is based in New York and performs activities on a hybrid work schedule. This role will primarily work in NYC on worksites and is expected to attend in-person strategic and planning meetings as needed.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

To excel in this role, you must perform the following responsibilities effectively, with the possibility of additional duties as assigned:

  • Evaluate technically complex engineering conditions and present findings, calculations, analyses and recommendations in written reports.
  • Review complex project designs by others with follow-up written reports including comments, analyses and recommendations.
  • Evaluate existing and new technologies and industry innovations and their applicability to school designs considering the school's location and maintenance needs.
  • Examine all operating procedures and practices employed, and recommend improvements required.
  • Conduct detailed energy assessments and energy auditing services.
  • Develop and review energy and sustainability proposals, design and construction specifications and standards.
  • Review current energy management and greenhouse gases reduction strategies.
  • Perform energy modeling and simulation design.
  • Prepare sub-metering and advanced metering design plans.
  • Conduct detailed measurement and verification, energy savings analysis and rebates processing.
  • Review DCAS Energy and Local Law Reports for DOE sites, identify high energy usage areas, and propose solutions.
  • Review measures implemented by DCAS for Clean Energy Generation and propose strategies where applicable.
  • Analyze energy usage data for Demand Response and Load Management.

Qualifications:

To thrive in this role, you should meet the following qualifications. Preference given to individuals currently residing in New York City.

  • Must be licensed and registered in New York State as a Professional Engineer.
  • Must provide evidence of a minimum of eight (8) years of professional and responsible work in Engineering services. Certification as a QEWI may be substituted for up to two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess an excellent working knowledge of old and new building and construction systems, their effectiveness, and costs.
  • Thorough knowledge of building automation systems (BAS).
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication, client management, and project management skills.
  • Must have experience troubleshooting deficiencies in building components similar to those owned by the NYCDOE.
