Job Title: Lead Electrical Engineer (Hardware & Embedded Systems)

Location: Rochester, NY (Relocation Support Available) Please note this note this role requires you to be on-site.

Are you an Electrical Engineer who feels stuck in a silo? Are you ready to break free from the narrow confines of a single function and take true, end-to-end ownership of a product's success?

We are a global leader in applied photonics and measurement technology, developing cutting-edge systems that make the world safer, cleaner, and healthier. Our Rochester R&D center is a hub of innovation, and we are looking for a technical leader to become the electrical engineering authority for our next of products.

This isn't your typical senior engineering role. We're not looking for a small cog in a giant machine. We're looking for a self-starting, hands-on engineer who can architect, design, and drive complex embedded systems from a clean sheet of paper right through to mass production.

Why This Role is Different:

This is a unique opportunity that offers the best of both worlds: the autonomy and impact of a startup, backed by the stability and career development opportunities of a global FTSE 100 technology group.

  • For the experienced engineer: This is your chance to escape the red tape and leverage your deep expertise in a highly autonomous role. You will be the senior electrical presence on-site, making the critical architectural decisions and guiding projects with minimal oversight. Your impact will be immediate and visible.
  • For the high-potential step-up engineer: This is the career-defining move you've been waiting for. If you have a strong foundation in hardware development and are ready for more responsibility, this role provides the perfect platform. You'll take the technical lead, mentor a junior engineer, and gain invaluable experience in project ownership and leadership.

What You'll Do:

  • Take complete ownership of the electrical architecture for new spectroscopic and imaging systems, from concept and requirements gathering to integration, test, and production release.
  • Design and develop complex digital and analog circuits, create multi-layer PCB layouts (using tools like Altium Designer or comparable), and manage the entire hardware development lifecycle.
  • Serve as the lead technical mentor for our on-site junior engineering talent, helping to guide their development and elevate the team's capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of brilliant mechanical, software, and systems engineers to solve complex integration challenges.
  • Drive the product through compliance and certification (CE, UL), ensuring our designs are robust, reliable, and ready for the global market.

What You'll Bring:

  • A proven track record of developing complex hardware and firmware for embedded systems, with demonstrable experience taking a product from concept to manufacturing.
  • A jack-of-all-trades mindset with broad skills in digital and analog circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
  • The confidence and drive to work independently, solve tough problems, and make critical technical decisions.
  • A passion for mentorship and a desire to help others grow their technical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines.

What We Offer:

We believe in rewarding our people for their impact. We offer a competitive salary, an annual performance-based bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package. As part of a global group, you will have access to outstanding career development and advancement opportunities worldwide.

Relocation Support:

Not from the Rochester area? We've got you covered. For the right candidate, we offer a comprehensive and generous relocation package to help you and your family make a smooth and successful move to this vibrant and affordable city.

Why Rochester, NY?

While known for its snowy winters, Rochester is also ranked as one of the best places in the U.S. for quality of life. It's a city where your salary goes further, with a cost of living significantly lower than other tech hubs and a median home price that makes ownership an attainable reality. Say goodbye to long commutes and hello to a city with a thriving arts scene, fantastic food, and easy access to the stunning natural beauty of the Finger Lakes region.
