Summary:

The Senior Director - Practice Operations role is responsible for providing leadership and direction in planning, guiding, and coordinating practice operations. As a member of the senior leadership team, this position will be a significant contributor to strategic planning and business development efforts and will be responsible for the successful implementation of these plans.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree preferred.
  • License/Certifications: N/A
  • Experience: Five years of progressive and relevant healthcare management experience. Experience as a member of a senior leadership team may be required. Extensive physician-hospital practice integration and applicable program development experience preferred.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements Required: N/A
  • Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Experience with Rural Health Clinic regulatory requirements. Knowledge of Patient Centered Medical Home and Patient Centered Specialty Practice designation. Travel between sites may be required.
  • Responsibilities
    • Works with medical and administrative leaders to identify strategic opportunities. Establishes strategic relationships within the medical group, hospital, and across the MaineHealth system.
    • Maintains a strategic view of sources of revenue for the practices. Responsible for overseeing the implementation and successful achievement of the annual business and strategic plans for practices and hospitals.
    • Recommends solutions and assists with the implementation of changes.
    • Supervises Practice Managers, Directors, and other leaders within assigned practices. Facilitates goal setting, attainment, and ongoing professional development. Serves in a leadership dyad relationship with the Chief Medical Officer.
    • Maintains a close relationship with practice leaders to address issues promptly.
    • Assists in developing quality standards and measuring and reporting quality improvements.
    • Assists in preparing and implementing annual capital and operating budgets. Recommends funding based on thorough knowledge of policies, costs, and operating procedures.
    • Conducts monthly financial reviews for practices, outlining progress regarding business plan and budget implementation. Performs variance analyses and develops mitigation strategies as needed.
    • Collaborates with hospital leadership to explore, develop, and measure opportunities against quality, safety, efficiency, and cost targets.
    • Participates in employee recruitment, development, performance reviews, and management, including physician and management retention efforts.
    • Works with practice leaders to optimize practice performance, including clinical, staff, and asset utilization. Develops effective partnerships with physicians and management.
