Position Objective
The senior director of strategic giving is responsible for leading and managing the development of strategic giving programs. This includes developing short- and long-term strategies aligned with university goals, engaging in direct donor cultivation, and working collaboratively with university colleagues to meet fundraising objectives.
Essential Functions
- Manage a portfolio of high-capacity donors, focusing on stewardship and gift retention. Prepare proposals and meet with potential donors. (25%)
- Lead strategic giving activities involving gifts of $1,000,000+ to enhance the university's image and development efforts. Provide financial and tax planning counsel. (15%)
- Ensure compliance with laws regarding charitable solicitation and gift administration, develop gift agreements, and revise related documents. Collaborate with General Counsel. (25%)
- Develop and implement strategic plans for giving programs, create new donor products, and support university-wide fundraising goals. (15%)
- Partner with university departments and external stakeholders to raise funds for priority initiatives, fostering strong relationships. (10%)
Nonessential Functions
- Manage dissemination of marketing tools and prospect management information. (5%)
- Collaborate with senior staff on philanthropic opportunities and policy issues. (5%)
Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of related experience, including major gift closures. Bachelor's degree required; financial background and CPA preferred.
