Job Summary:

Reporting to the CSO, the Sr. Director of Business Development will be responsible for identifying and pursuing clinical trial study opportunities with current and new sponsors / CROs, per assigned accounts. The Director will actively promote CenExel's image and clinical trial conduct service capabilities in a way which will further the company's objectives, growth, and profitability. The Director will participate, provide feedback, and support sales goals each fiscal year and track the progress to ensure that objectives are met. Other key responsibilities will include creating, implementing, and executing key sponsor / CRO strategic account activities in alignment with CenExel's business plan and objectives.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • ACHIEVE ANNUAL QUOTA
  • Visits / calls upon assigned sponsors / CROs and or new prospects to sell and support CenExel's suite of clinical trial services.
  • Grows CenExel's market share by winning new sponsor / CRO clinical trial studies among assigned sponsors and CROs.
  • Identifies new sponsor prospects, performs need analysis, identifies opportunities, and follows up to close.
  • Promotes CenExel's network of clinical trial sites and expertise to sponsors and CROs.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of CenExel's clinical trial conduct capabilities within its network of sites.
  • Participates in strategic and business decisions regarding new clinical trial study opportunities.
  • Executes sales and business development activities, including sales planning, visits, reports and accurate data / opportunity entry into CenExel's CRM system.
  • Maintains current and accurate data in the CRM on all sales and business development activities with your assigned sponsors and CROs.
  • Adheres to Customer Centric selling methodologies.
  • Uses internet, phone, tradeshow, business intelligence leads and other sources to generate new opportunities.
  • Ensures communication and coordination with the labs to facilitate the successful handover and execution of the new and current business.
  • Participates in arranging and hosting prospective sponsor / CRO visits to any of CenExel clinical trial sites.
  • Networks with key players and maintains an understanding of external market developments to ensure CenExel becomes the clinical trial conduct service provider of choice to a greater share of the market.
  • Reacts upon business opportunities forwarded by Business Intelligence and or Operations and inform them on progress.
  • Assists and supports in decisions involving clinical trial study opportunity budget structure and negotiations, from receipt of budget and contract, through closure with fully executed contract.
  • Ensures that any client complaints are forwarded to the appropriate individual(s) and resolved in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Assists and supports Budgets and Contracts team with review and implementation of MSAs (Master Service Agreements).
  • Reports on opportunity and pipeline development.
  • Reports on developments in the marketplace and competitor activities.
  • Forwards potential opportunities to other Business Development colleagues (i.e., sponsor owners) as appropriate.
  • At all times, adopts a safe behavior by exercising due regard for the health and safety of CenExel employees and clients, in line with CenExel's policies and procedures.
  • Supports and ensures strictest adherence to best practices, FDA Code of Federal Regulations, ICH (International Conference on Harmonization), GCP (Good Clinical Practices), CenExel standard operating procedures, site working Practices, protocol, and company guidelines and policies.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all inclusive.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Four year degree in relevant field field (e.g. business, marketing, life science). Advance degree preferred (MBA, MS); preferably degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacology.
  • Five years of business development experience in sales and or marketing required; within a CRO and / or clinical trial site or network, preferred.
  • Sales and / or business development experience with pharmaceutical and medical device companies and / or CRO, clinical trial site or network.
  • High level of written and verbal English.
  • Professional, high standards in personal presentation.
  • Background in Pharm / BioPharm preferred, especially selling clinical trial and / or CRO services.
  • Ability to manage relationships under high pressure situations.
  • Ability to work and think independently and coordinate several activities simultaneously.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and listening skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to achieve shared objectives.
  • Ability to achieve and carryout effective business development and selling techniques.
  • Ability to maintain service oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Maintain enthusiasm and perserverance.
  • Effective presentation, negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Must have an understanding of the clinical trial process (Phase I – IV).
  • Must possess solid critical thinking skills; must be able to anticipate and solve problems in a systematic manner.
  • Valid driver's license.

Working Conditions

  • Indoor, Office environment.
  • Essential physical requirements include sitting, typing, standing, and walking.
  • Lightly active position, occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
  • Reporting to work, as scheduled, is essential.
  • Frequent local travel in motor vehicles to and from business meetings.
  • Airline travel up to 20% of the time.
