Position Summary:
The Senior Director of Project Accounting is responsible for all aspects of project accounting for the company and its subsidiaries. This role works under the guidance of and in collaboration with the Finance/Accounting team and Operations team to manage the oversight, preparation, analysis, and distribution of regional internal and external customer financial reporting. In addition, this position will occasionally be assigned special projects by executive and financial management.
Essential Functions:
- Provide high-visibility support to senior management, including divisional leaders, and assist with communicating results and analysis to executive leadership.
- Oversee all aspects of the project accounting system, including revenue recognition practices, standard cost and variance analysis, accounting entries, job setup/maintenance, and audit support.
- Manage month-end activities for revenue and cost.
- Lead and manage a multi-location accounting team.
- Review and analyze account reconciliations.
- Maintain and oversee compliance with project accounting-related control procedures.
- Ensure appropriate internal controls are in place and followed within the project accounting function.
- Support the Operations team with project accounting-related needs, including job cost analysis, reporting, and training.
- Supervise monthly project accounting exception reporting.
- Assist finance leadership with gap analyses and accounting integration for acquired entities.
- Collaborate with operations and finance teams on intercompany arrangements, as appropriate.
- Support executive and finance leadership with analytics, data mining, and ad hoc projects.
- Assist with financial system implementations and upgrades.
- Adapt to new responsibilities and priorities efficiently.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in accounting and finance, with an emphasis in project accounting.
- 7+ years of experience managing accountants and finance professionals.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Strong leadership and coaching skills for managing multiple employees.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (Pivot Tables, advanced functions, and data analysis).
- Strong technical skills in US GAAP financial reporting, especially revenue recognition.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA, MAC, and/or MBA preferred.
- Experience in both private and public accounting sectors.
- Construction industry experience.
- Experience with finance ERP systems (Oracle Cloud Fusion preferred).
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information and recommendations clearly to diverse audiences.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong technical writing ability for reports, memorandums, and procedures.
- Experience with Oracle PPM (including implementations) is a strong plus.
- Ability to implement process improvements to streamline project accounting and month-end close processes.
