For more information, please visit us at www.axsome.com and follow us on LinkedIn and X.About This RoleAxsome Therapeutics is seeking a Senior Director, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) to provide the vision and strategic leadership required to support the value proposition of Axsome's products and pipeline assets, from product development through lifecycle management. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, HEOR, the Senior Director, HEOR will shape and influence the strategic execution of observational research to inform a variety of stakeholders including clinicians, payers, policy makers, patient groups, as well as internal decision making. An integral part of HEOR is the conceptualization and execution of scientifically credible research on Axsome assests and their disease states / therapeutic areas, guided by the development of a strategic evidence generation plan. This plan may include but is not limited to health economics studies and analyses of secondary databases, economic modeling, cohort studies, post-hoc analyses of clinical trial data, pharmacoepidemiology research, patient reported outcomes (PROs), survey methods, registries, oversight of observational investigator initiated research plans; etc, and is developed with partnerships from other parts of Medical Affairs, Publications and Scientific Communications, Clinical Development, Market Access, commercial functions, and other relevant partners at Axsome as appropriate. The Senior Director of HEOR will be accountable for providing insights to Early and Clinical Development as needed, Commercial, Marketing, Market Access, and across Medical Affairs regarding the incorporation of HEOR and RWE to support development and commercialization of Axsome products.This role is based at Axsome's HQ in New York City with an on-site requirement of at least three days per week. We are unable to consider candidates who are looking for fully remote roles.Job Responsibilities and Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- In partnership with Medical Strategy Leads, drive the assessment and prioritization of evidence gaps and objectives to determine HEOR/observational research strategy, research objectives, and tactical plans and projects, as well as appropriate differentiation strategies
- Accountable for the HEOR strategy as an integral part of the Medical Affairs Cross-functional Team (MCT)
- Work closely with Health Outcome Liaison (HOL) team, as well as Commercial and Market Access teams, to lead the development of Health Economic strategy and plans to optimize market access for pipeline programs
- Provide HEOR, epidemiologic, patient-reported outcomes, or/and RWE expertise and support to medical teams, brand teams, & program teams, and disseminate technical information through technical reports, presentation, and publication in peer-reviewed literature as agreed by the team
- Leverage existing registries and EHR databases (with external vendors or internal staff as appropriate) to address payer evidence generation and reimbursement priorities, and support regulatory requirements where needed
- Contribute to the design, HEOR endpoint selection, reporting and analysis of clinical studies including subgroup analyses
- Lead and create global value and AMCP dossiers
- Perform critical assessments & analyses of medical and scientific evidence including systematic reviews, RWE, economic evaluations as the basis for HTA assessments, disease management guidelines, and formulary evaluations
- Provide input into registry data analytics and methodologies
- Document unmet needs by demonstrating economic and humanistic burden of illness in planned/approved indications for products
- Demonstrate product value versus comparator through mixed treatment comparison or indirect treatment comparison methods as appropriate
- Develop cost-effectiveness model-based economic evaluations, budget impact analyses, cost-offset analyses and burden of illness studies
- Conduct or partner to develop patient and caregiver surveys to support value propositions
- Responsible for providing training to internal stakeholders (payer account managers, payer MSLs, Medical Affairs, Market Access) and external partners on cost-effectiveness models, budget impact models, disease reviews, and HEOR abstracts and papers
- Excellent communication skills, advanced multi-stakeholder experience, and a highly-evolved capability to translate RWE strategic narratives to diverse audiences
- Effectively manage internal and external stakeholder expectations regarding strategic objectives and execution of research
- Project management oversight – ensuring effective design, initiation and implementation of real-world evidence studies, while ensuring effective study protocols and plans, managing budget and milestone tracking, and where appropriate contracting with partner organizations
- Collaborate with scientific communication and medical directors in development and communication of key literature analyses to internal stakeholders; provide strategic support of publication planning and participate on publication team to provide medical and scientific oversight to publication and scientific presentations
- Represent Axsome at medical meetings, conferences, advisory boards, outreach meetings at key institutions and in interactions with thought leaders, as relevant
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures, as well as US healthcare laws and regulations
Requirements / Qualifications
- Advanced degree related to health economics, epidemiology, health systems research, and/or health outcomes research (MSc, MPH, PhD, PharmD, MD)
- 10+ years of relevant pharmaceutical/ life science HEOR experience
- Ability to work on site Monday, Tuesday & Thursday. We are unable to consider candidates who are looking for fully remote roles
Experience, Knowledge And Skills
- Experience in design, conduct and oversight of real-world evidence studies ranging from protocol writing to project management oversight and data interpretation and communication
- Ability to explain strengths and limitations of clinical practice datasets — such as electronic health records, claims, clinical data registries, patient generated health data, and other health data sources — in context of designing observational study designs
- Demonstrated depth of understanding of observational research methods, regulatory standards, and ability to leverage epidemiologic and data science expertise to meet evolving business needs
- Solid understanding of the cross functional drug development lifecycle and processes (business development, clinical trial design, conduct, & endpoint selection, biostatistics, and regulatory)
- Preferred breadth of experience to include neuroscience
- Ability to impact, influence, and interact with senior business leaders and partners.
- Experience and awareness of Reimbursement and Access environments
- Demonstrable success in employing innovative techniques to overcome data limitations
- Excellent analytical skills, including in-depth technical expertise and experience, knowledge of health economic modeling, patient-reported outcome measures and outcomes research methodologies
- Experience of exceptional collaboration with other functions (e.g., market access, pricing, medical affairs, patient advocacy and commercial)
- Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills especially over departmental and geographical boundaries
- Budget management
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, entrepreneurial, management, presentation, and writing skills required; self-motivated & proactive
- Ability to work successfully in a matrix and quick paced environment, and to lead, collaborate and influence cross-functional teams
- Flexible, adaptable, diplomatic, and able to effectively deal with ambiguity
- Possesses a good blend of strategic and operational experience with the ability to see the big picture and strong attention to detail
- Ability to multitask priorities to align with program objectives
- Launch team experience preferred
Salary & BenefitsThe anticipated salary range for this role is $250,000 - $275,000. We encourage candidates of all levels to apply as there may be flexibility on final job title and responsibilities. The salary offer will be based on a variety of factors, including experience, qualifications, internal equity and location.
