The Senior Director of Mainframe will lead our Mainframe teams within the Infrastructure Management Division in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing and optimizing a Mainframe team for large-scale enterprise environments and a deep understanding of cloud technologies to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions.
Responsibilities
- Play a key role in driving the success of IM strategic initiatives within OTI's broader organizational goals, specifically for the Mainframe group.
- Provide strong leadership to the Mainframe team, including clear communication, goal setting, and performance management.
- Ensure all projects are accurately tracked in the organization's system of record, with up-to-date progress and adherence to timelines.
- Conduct monthly reviews of Mainframe assignments related to incidents and open requests, ensuring timely resolution.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements; lead initiatives to implement enhancements within the Mainframe team.
- Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers to ensure high-quality service delivery and contractual compliance.
- Review and approve all Mainframe procurements to align with operational needs and budget constraints.
- Assess and mitigate risks for Mainframe operations, including security vulnerabilities, compliance requirements, and technology dependencies.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure Mainframe services meet needs and strategic objectives.
- Produce detailed weekly reports on Mainframe initiatives and project progress.
- Stay informed on industry IT trends and recommend system and process improvements for the Mainframe group.
- Develop performance metrics to measure team productivity and drive continuous improvement.
- Foster collaboration between engineering and operations to enhance Mainframe service delivery.
- Monitor consultant and contractor performance, completing annual vendor rating reports.
- Serve as the first responder to significant outages, participating in incident resolution and reporting to management.
- Oversee Root Cause Analysis (RCA) sign-off for incidents and ensure permanent fixes are implemented.
- Lead special projects, including the Mainframe Disaster Recovery migration from the Sterling Forest Data Center, ensuring continuity of critical services.
Hours/Shift
Day – Due to necessary management duties in a 24/7 operation, the candidate may be on call and work various shifts including weekends and/or nights/evenings.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with 24 credits in voice/data telecommunications or related area and four years of relevant experience; or
- An associate degree with 12 credits in the field and five years of relevant experience; or
- Education/experience equivalent to the above with at least a four-year high school diploma and 18 months of executive/managerial experience.
Preferred Skills
- 5+ years in IT management with focus on Mainframe services delivery and vulnerability management.
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to develop long-term strategic plans for Mainframe operations.
- Experience with z/OS/RACF/CICS/storage/hardware (e.g., z/16, z/14).
- Experience with ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) and IT security frameworks (NIST, ISO/IEC 27001).
- Experience with monitoring tools and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Chef) is a plus.
- Experience with hybrid cloud management platforms is a plus.
