Overview

The Drug Delivery and New Product Innovation Group within Lilly's DDCS (Delivery and Device Connected Solutions) function studies physiological barriers across various routes of administration to apply and create novel patient-centric drug delivery solutions. The group focuses on injection device platforms and novel delivery devices to improve patient care and serves as a Center of Excellence in: injection physiology and modeling, developing novel drug delivery technologies across modalities, nanomedicine and targeted delivery, and connected devices and digital biomarkers.

We are seeking a highly collaborative and self-motivated professional with experience in developing and characterizing drug delivery systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to nanomedicine and targeted delivery applications.
  • Lead the development and implementation of our portfolio in delivery strategies and engage functional leaders across the organization to drive strategies that position our teams to deliver the best product to patients.
  • Drive the creation and execution of strategic project plans to support long-range and yearly business plans. Drive external collaborations.
  • Establish, monitor, and evolve functional governance with management; advise on adjustments to ensure efficient communication, escalation, and decision making.
  • Leverage high-quality scientific principles and a drug development mindset to enable strategic and operational objectives.
  • Develop and maintain clear, ongoing communication within and outside the organization concerning our vision, performance, and impact.
  • Contribute to the successful implementation of key initiatives, including acceleration plans, portfolio delivery and sourcing models; share initiatives and implementation plans.
  • Propose and lead projects from design to delivery to support successful project delivery as efficiently as possible.
  • Identify potential issues and contingency plans with a focus on quality and risk mitigation across delivery platform projects.
  • Contribute to defining technologies that support short- and long-term organizational goals.
  • Drive effective communication, escalation, and shared learning with technical experts and leaders.
  • Collaborate with external partners to deliver portfolio projects.
  • Apply innovation and lessons learned in real time; foster a culture of continuous improvement through process improvement, technology, automation, and shared learning.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in Nanoparticle Injection Physiology / Biocorona / Chemistry / Materials Science / Chemical Engineering or related field with at least 15 years of relevant industrial and post-doctoral experience.
  • Demonstrated technical mastery and scientific leadership in nanoparticle technologies and controlled release.
  • Knowledge of particle science technologies including drug delivery and combination products is preferred.
  • In vivo animal research experience is preferred.
  • Self-motivated, dedicated, and adaptable to evolving priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary matrixed team environment.
  • Ability to travel about 10% of the time.

Compensation and Benefits

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage range for this position is $166,500 - $278,300. Full-time employees are eligible for a company bonus (depending on company and individual performance). Lilly offers a comprehensive benefits program, including medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; 401(k) and pension plans; vacation and leave benefits; flexible benefits; life and death benefits; and well-being programs.
