Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.Job SummaryProvides high-level leadership and oversight for the delivery of capital projects that directly support the university's expanding research and innovation enterprise. Responsible for strategic project planning, design management, and construction execution for specialized facilities including research laboratories, high-containment spaces, vivarium, clean rooms, and STEM-based academic buildings. Direct responsibility for aligning technical construction efforts with institutional priorities, funding timelines, compliance standards, and end-user needs. Utilizes expertise in complex capital project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and the unique requirements of research and laboratory environments.ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES -1. Leads planning, budgeting, and execution of high-value research construction and renovation projects from concept to close-out2. Directs cross-functional teams including architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors to ensure timely and compliant project delivery3. Collaborates with academic leadership, research faculty, and technical stakeholders to develop detailed scopes of work and performance standards4. Evaluates design submittals and construction documentation for technical accuracy and code and regulatory compliance5. Serves as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies (including the State Fire Marshal and Environmental Health and Safety)6. Oversees quality assurance, safety, risk mitigation, cost control, schedule adherence, and system commissioning7. Analyzes change orders, schedules, invoices, contracts, and value engineering proposals to maintain project integrity and financial alignment8. Maintains detailed documentation, reports, and communication plans to ensure transparency and accountability throughout each project lifecycleRequired QualificationsEducational RequirementsBachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related fieldRequired ExperienceSeven (7) years of relevant experience in managing complex construction projects, including at least three (3) years in a research, lab, and/or healthcare environment.Preferred QualificationsAdditional Preferred QualificationsProfessional Licensure (PE, RA, PMP, or CCM)Knowledge of University System of Georgia policies and capital project proceduresPreferred Educational QualificationsAn advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in in Construction, Architecture, Engineering, or related fieldPreferred ExperienceExperience delivering research or healthcare facilities in higher education or institutional environmentsKnowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesABILITIESAble to analyze project data, identify issues, and make informed decisionsAble to identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks to projects and programsAble to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlinesKNOWLEDGEA thorough understanding of various construction methods, materials, and building codes is crucialUnderstanding of business principles, market trends, and contractual agreements is importantFamiliarity with project management frameworks and methodologiesSKILLSExcellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skillsProficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite, project management software, construction software, and other relevant tools)Strong attention to detail and follow up skillsStrong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquetteUSG Core ValuesThe University System of Georgia is comprised of our 26 institutions of higher education and learning as well as the System Office.
