Job Description A Brief Overview

We are looking for a highly capable Senior Construction Defect Claims Adjuster to join our team and work from any one of our offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Omaha, Richmond (VA), Rockwood (PA), or San Antonio, or remotely from your home within the continental United States. We work together in the office five days a week to strengthen our culture, build team connections, and drive profitability. This individual will report to the VP of Construction Defect Claims in Northern California and adjudicate complex Construction Defect claims, providing superb results for our clients.

The primary duties and responsibilities of the role are :
  • Adjudicate moderately complex commercial construction defect claims, potentially with significant impact on departmental results, working under limited technical direction within broad limits and authority.
  • Solve difficult problems requiring an understanding of a broader set of issues.
  • Report to senior management and underwriters on claims trends and developments.
  • Analyze claims forms, policies, endorsements, client instructions, and other records to determine policy coverage.
  • Investigate claims promptly and thoroughly, including interviewing involved parties.
  • Manage claims in litigation.
  • Manage diary tasks to ensure cases move to the best financial outcome and are resolved timely.
  • Create and review reserves in line with market and Argo's reserving policy.
  • Identify loss drivers and claims trends to reduce claims frequency and severity through data analysis and improved claim management.
  • Coordinate expertise resources to assist in case resolution.
  • Prepare reports for file documentation.
  • Apply creative solutions for optimal financial outcomes.
  • Negotiate effectively to provide cost-effective solutions within your limits using various negotiation styles.
  • Process mail and prioritize workload.
  • Communicate via telephone and written correspondence with various parties (insured, claimant, etc.).
  • Demonstrate a passion for strong claim management.
  • Core qualifications and requirements for this position include :
    • Good business acumen, understanding how an insurance company works and makes money, and how this role impacts profitability for Argo Group and clients.
    • Advanced knowledge of commercial general liability bodily injury claims, typically acquired through at least five years of adjudicating construction defect claims with exposure of $100,000 or more.
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required. Alternatively, two or more insurance designations or four additional years of related experience adjudicating general liability bodily injury beyond the minimum may substitute for a degree.
    • Licenses in multiple jurisdictions, including a General Adjusting License in Florida, Texas, or Wyoming, or current licenses in other jurisdictions, with the ability to obtain additional licenses within three months of hire.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to build lasting relationships.
    • Strong evaluation, strategic, and claim negotiation skills.
    • Customer-focused with effective time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
    • Ability to articulate the financial value of your work to various responsibility levels, including CEOs.
    • Discretion and independent judgment on significant matters.
    • Inner strength and ethical integrity to do the right thing daily.
    • Focus on execution and results, with traits such as flexibility, resourcefulness, and resilience in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
    • Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with clients, partners, and peers.

    • Understanding of mechanisms for resolving claims disputes (e.g., arbitration, mediation).
    • Proficiency in MS Office and other business-related software.

    Salary and Benefits

    The base salary range varies by geographic location, with additional eligibility for annual bonuses based on performance, along with a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, 401(k) match, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.

    • Colorado outside Denver metro, Maryland, Massachusetts (outside Boston metro), Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island, Vermont: $99,200 - $118,100
    • Boston metro, California outside Los Angeles & San Francisco metro, Connecticut, Chicago metro, Denver metro, New Jersey (outside NYC), New York State (outside NYC), Washington State: $109,200 - $129,900
    • NYC, LA, SF metro areas: $119,100 - $141,800
