AXIS is seeking a Senior Claim Director, Specialty Complex Claims to join our North America Claims team. This role reports to the Head of Specialty Complex Claims and involves managing a wide variety of complex claims across multiple lines including Casualty, Commercial Property, Professional Lines, Program Claims, Canada Claims, and A&H Claims.

This role will be responsible for :

  • Direct management of severe and complex claims, including coverage issues and litigation or arbitration.
  • Formulating claims and litigation strategies, managing outside counsel, and controlling litigation costs.
  • Managing discovery and ensuring proper preparation for depositions and trials.
  • Providing guidance on coverage issues and disputes, collaborating with legal teams, and reviewing coverage positions across various states.
  • Identifying trends and issues in claims and developing strategies for their management.
  • Supporting underwriting with policy construction, trend reporting, data analysis, and risk assessments.
  • Mentoring and coaching the North America claims team on coverage and claim handling.
  • Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including brokers, insureds, attorneys, and reinsurers.
  • Communicating effectively with senior management and external partners.
  • KEY SKILLS & ABILITIES :

  • 7-10+ years of claims handling experience with diverse coverage issues and litigation.
  • Leadership, organizational, and management skills.
  • Legal practice experience and claims management expertise.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across organizational levels.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • In-depth knowledge of claims, litigation, arbitration, and trial processes.
  • Law Degree and active bar admission.
  • Adjuster Licenses in all states as required.
  • Willingness to travel for team management, court proceedings, mediations, and settlements.
  • Salary range is approximately $150K to $175K, based on experience and location, plus incentive bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package including health, wellness, retirement, tuition reimbursement, paid vacation, and more.
