In this position, you will be responsible for the in-house design of a variety of bridge types, including both vehicular and pedestrian structures constructed from materials such as prestressed concrete, reinforced concrete, timber, and concrete box culverts. Your role will involve evaluating and recommending appropriate structural designs, which will subsequently be submitted to the section chief for approval. A strong proficiency in performing hydrology and hydraulic calculations, along with structural design calculations, is crucial for success in this role. Additionally, you will be tasked with preparing engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates, which requires a solid understanding of PennDOT specifications, design manuals, standards, and relevant software applications. The position also includes overseeing construction activities, resolving any on-site issues that may arise, and conducting bridge inspections within State Forest Districts and State Parks as necessary. A valid PennDOT Bridge Safety Inspection Training Certification is a prerequisite for this role.Moreover, you will serve as the main liaison for external consultants involved in bridge design projects for the Department. In this capacity, you will manage contracts, which entails reviewing and approving proposals and submissions throughout the design process. Once the final plans and specifications are approved, you will be responsible for signing off on the final drawings and forwarding the bid package to the Construction Management Section to initiate the bidding process. This role also requires you to provide technical support to other professionals within the Bureau, including those in the Environmental, Architectural, and Landscape Architecture sections, particularly concerning engineering analyses of both existing and proposed conditions.

QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline;or
Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
