Responsibilities

The Senior Chemist will oversee all technical activities related to the development of new and existing formulations, innovation, and the first production scale-up of new products in our Lodi, NJ facility. They will train and provide support to our junior team members.

  • Formulate and lead the development of innovative colored cosmetic products, including line extensions and product improvements (e.g., emulsions and anhydrous formulations).
  • Identify and implement new or improved formulation technologies that align with project needs, considering factors like cost, regulatory constraints, and ingredient restrictions (e.g., no-no list), in collaboration with the strategic marketing department.
  • Provide technical support to customers through oral presentations, written reports, and meetings.
  • Collaborate directly with clients to achieve the desired formulation outcomes.
  • Proactively research new concepts, materials, and technical opportunities, exploring potential partnerships.
  • Coordinate with all departments across the company, including material suppliers, to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Effectively manage projects, providing regular status updates to the group leader or manager.
  • Adhere to all SOPs regarding formula development and creation.
  • Ensure all project communications and result reporting are conducted through the ERP system.
  • Assist in the technical transfer process of both commercialized and non-commercialized formulations.
  • Attend trade shows and customer curated presentations.
  • Record and review all activities with your direct supervisor.
  • Supervise a technician and chemist 1.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Physics, etc.)
  • 5-6 years of experience in cosmetic formulation.
  • Expertise in cosmetic formulation, color perception, raw material knowledge, regulatory compliance, GLPs, GMPs, and FDA guidelines
  • Proficient in computer applications (Word, Excel, SAP, Power Point)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Willing to present to customers
  • Solid math skills
  • Professional, courteous demeanor
  • Willingness to travel (up to 10% of the time)
