Senior Building Energy Engineer
Job Title: Senior Retro-Commissioning (RCx) / Energy Auditor – Building Energy Engineer
Position Type: P art-Time (1099 Contractor)
Location: Remote (Travel Required to Colorado)
Time Commitment: ~5-10+ hours per week to complete report
On-Site Requirement: Current Need includes a two-day site visit to four properties located in Vail, Colorado by Mid-June 2025.

Position Overview
IMPACTenergy is seeking an experienced Senior Building Energy Engineer with deep expertise in energy audits and retro-commissioning of large commercial buildings (100,000+ sq. ft.). This is a part-time, contract role ideal for a self-motivated professional with at least 15 years of experience in the field. The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying energy conservation opportunities and supporting project implementation for hospitality properties.

·Do you have 15+ years of hands-on experience conducting commercial energy audits and Retro-Commissioning RCx projects at large commercial buildings (100,000+ sq. ft.).
·Have worked directly with HVAC and controls contractors to implement energy efficiency measures.
·Are you an expert at conducting ASHRAE audits, energy savings calculations, and developing cost-effective ECMs.
·Can independently manage energy efficiency projects from initial audit through M&V.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical Tasks
·Lead and support ASHRAE Level I–III energy audits, RCx, and HVAC systems optimization.
·Perform on-site investigations, identify ECMs, and evaluate energy savings opportunities.
·Analyze and optimize Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls for energy efficiency.
·Develop and document ECMs, savings estimates, and cost evaluations.
·Prepare detailed technical reports, including financial analyses and implementation strategies.
· Develop energy conversations measures (ECMs) and analyze energy savings.
· Create or already have developed engineering calculations in spreadsheets for energy savings analysis.
· Develop written reports detailing technical and financial analyses and recommendations.
Project & Client Management:
·Define project goals, timelines, and execution strategies.
·Coordinate with owners, mechanical contractors, and controls vendors to support implementation.
·Participate in technical discussions during client meetings and stakeholder calls to support implementation of energy measures.
Qualifications
·15+ years of experience in energy audits, commissioning, and retro-commissioning of large commercial buildings.
·Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, DDC, and BAS optimization.
·Proven experience in developing cost estimates and energy models for ECMs.
·Exceptional technical writing and communication skills.
·Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (required).
·Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, but not required.
·Highly organized with strong time management, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
Compensation & Logistics
· Current Projects : 4 projects to be completed by August 1st (20–30 hours/project on average)
· Remote Work: ~70% of work is remote (reporting, calculations, client meetings)
· Travel: ~30% U.S. travel required for site visits, primarily in Colorado (approx. every other month)
· Travel Reimbursement: TBD
· Preferred Location : Colorado-based candidates are preferred due to travel efficiency
