About the role:

The Senior Assistant Dean for Development leads major gift fundraising for the School of Engineering and Computer Science at University of the Pacific. This key role focuses on securing gifts of $50,000 and above, while strengthening alumni relations, donor engagement, and strategic outreach.

Working closely with the School Dean, faculty, staff, and the University Development and Alumni Relations team across Pacific's three campuses, the Senior Assistant Dean helps shape and execute strategic fundraising initiatives. This high-profile position requires a proven track record in major gift development, outstanding communication and relationship-building skills, and a collaborative, results-driven approach. This position offers the chance to partner with Dean Elizabeth Orwin, the first woman to lead the school and a dynamic biomedical engineer with a proven record of building strong academic and advancement programs. Pacific itself is a top-20% ranked engineering and computer science school, known for its innovation, intimate class sizes, and career-ready programs like CO-OP.

What you will be doing:

  • Providing strategic leadership in developing multi-year strategies, solicitation, and cultivation plans for major gift prospects aligned with the College of the Pacific and broader academic fundraising initiatives, including the creation of an annual business plan to secure philanthropic support.
  • Securing support, enhancing relationships, and promoting awareness for Pacific by:
  • Soliciting gifts of $50,000+ from alumni and friends through cultivation and solicitation strategies for major gift prospects.
  • Collaborating with administration, faculty, and volunteers across the three-city university campuses.
  • Identifying, recruiting, and overseeing the Dean's Council and related volunteer boards.
  • Developing and managing a portfolio of 125-150 major gift prospects capable of making significant contributions, and utilizing moves management to ensure a balanced pipeline across identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship stages.
  • Serving as the College's liaison to annual giving, alumni relations, corporate and foundation relations, principal gifts, planned giving, and stewardship.
  • Conducting meaningful engagement through in-person outreach, cultivation, solicitation activities, and face-to-face meetings with donor prospects to meet annual fundraising and performance goals.
  • Promoting an inspirational philanthropic culture college-wide and externally by increasing the University's visibility and value among community and professional organizations.
  • Overseeing and monitoring the development activity budget.
  • Operating within the Prospect Management Program framework and Pacific Gift Policies, and utilizing the advancement database to track and record development activity.
  • Participating in University and College of the Pacific events involving external constituents to support development efforts.
