Ensure you finish the assessment for your application to be reviewed.Behavioral Assessment LinkPosition SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Aquatics Director plans, and supervises day-to-day programs and activities of the YMCA of Montclair Park Street location. The Park Street location instructs 400+ participants in each session of swimming lessons. The Senior Aquatics Director will support the program planning and quality standards in compliance with Association standards. The Senior Aquatics Director will work collaboratively with the Aquatics Director at the Geyer Branch to ensure program objectives are met consistently across the association. This position is expected to train lifeguards and swim instructors and to provide a leadership presence during peak times of high swimmer volume and swim lessons. - Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers. Ensure records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Constantly evaluate staff performance and intervene immediately when a safety issue is present providing corrective solution. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve department goals.
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives. Administer the budget and exercises necessary controls to ensure operations are carried out in a balanced fiscal position.
- Ability to perform all functions as those they supervise.
- Direct and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives, while developing and implementing new aquatic programming.
- Schedules swim classes, programming, and coordinates pool time for water fitness, camps, swim team practices and meets. Create flyers and share department information with marketing, membership and other departments as needed.
- Able to provide grant deliverables in conjunction with the development department.
- Schedule facility rentals and programming with community partners.
- Assists in marketing and distribution of program information.
- Responsible for conducting and documenting safety drills, audits and monthly in-service training.
- Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
- Conducts lifeguarding, swimming instruction, CPR/AED, First Aid and Oxygen training.
- Active involvement in the planning and promotion of the Employee Annual Campaign.
- Models' relationship building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to members and community inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
- Attend staff meetings and training as assigned. Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
- Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk. Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
- Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers and require them to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
- Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the Y's disciplinary procedures and respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Communicates to all employees and volunteers the Y's commitment to protect our members from abuse.
- Assist in all other areas as assigned and complete all projects and assignments as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Physical Education or its equivalent in education and/or experience.
- Minimum age of 25 with 5 or more years of aquatics management experience.
- Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification.
- Current WSI or YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification preferred and obtain trainer status within 1 year of hire.
- Ability to make sound judgement and decision making.
- Ability to lead others and to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability to communicate effectively-verbally and in written form-with members, staff and volunteers.
- Maintain all required certifications (active).
- Must have a CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR get certified within 90 days of employment.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Must be able to frequently perform the following physical activities, swim, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit stand for extended periods of time, walk, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and communicate verbally.
- Must maintain lifeguard certification level of physical and mental readiness.
- Must be able to adequately hear noises and distinguish distress signals. Ability to pass lifeguard water skills assessment.
- Must be able to remain alert.

- Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for water rescue.
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.

- Must maintain a neat and professional appearance.
