Overview

We are seeking a Senior Acoustic Analyst and Support Specialist to support an upcoming long-term contract (contingent upon award). This position is part of the FLOAT - a Fish and Lynker Ocean Alliance Team - a joint venture with NOAA ProTech Fisheries.

Responsibilities

The duties include:

  • Collect and analyze passive acoustic data to assess marine mammals, fish, sound sources, and soundscapes using manual and automated detectors.
  • Improve and evaluate automated acoustic detectors' performance.
  • Coordinate real-time acoustic evaluation efforts.
  • Evaluate data quality and contribute to database efforts, including the PACM web application.
  • Integrate and analyze visual, oceanographic, and acoustic datasets.
  • Present results at conferences, contribute to reports, permits, manuscripts, and presentations.
  • Oversee passive acoustic field operations and support other field surveys.
  • Maintain government-provided equipment and protocols for data collection and processing.
  • Assist in hardware maintenance and construction of acoustic devices.
  • Support education and outreach activities.
  • Assist project leads with data collection, analysis, manuscript writing, and training junior staff.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum requirements:

    • Undergraduate degree in a relevant science field or equivalent experience.
    • PhD or equivalent experience.
    • Significant experience with acoustic analysis software platforms such as Raven, Ishmael, Pamguard, Triton, Pamguide, and MATLAB-based software.
