Organization The Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is a Christian non-profit organization that has been serving the less fortunate in Southern California through emergency and long-term rehabilitation services for more than 39 years. RMA partners with local churches to meet the spiritual needs of the people we serve. The primary purpose of the Accounting Department is to ensure the timely and accurate processing of business transactions, and reports to provide support and customer service through information and communication for the Rescue Mission Alliance. Summary The Senior Accountant works within the Accounting Department with the objective of processing journal entries and reconciliations for financial transactions to facilitate management reporting and accurate payroll reporting. The Senior Accountant reports to the Controller and interacts with the CEO, CFO, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, and Vendors. This is a full-time, non-exempt regular position located in, Oxnard, California. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is overtime and benefits eligible. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Daily - Prepare general ledger entries for reconciliations and daily banking activities. Maintain daily management report with data for revenue, bank transfers and disbursements.
  • Weekly - Prepare files and documents for New Vendor set up in the A/P system and submit to the Controller for approval. Prepare EDD New Vendor report and submit to Controller for approval. Data entries of Employee new hire information into the Payroll system and submit to payroll for entry into the timekeeping system.
  • Monthly - Enter general ledger entries for month end Accounts Payable accruals for utilities, fuel, recurring contracts, and all other payables into Intacct. Reconcile Intacct/Daily Report/Raisers Edge to assure all revenue transactions have been posted. Reconcile Bank Statements for all cash accounts and prepare required journal entries. Reconcile balance sheet accounts and prepare required journal entries.
  • Quarterly - prepare sales tax return and submit to Controller for approval.
  • Annually - assist with collection of data requested by the auditors, Controller or CFO during annual audits.
  • Occasionally - Ad Hock reporting for Controller and others.
Other Duties & Responsibilities The Senior Accountant will assist daily with the answering of the front door and greeting visitors while the reception position is unavailable or out of the office. During periods of vacations or illness in the department the Senior Accountant will serve as backup for the Staff Accountant, Accounts Payable Associate, and Payroll Accountant. Supervisory Responsibilities The Senior Accountant will assist the Controller with training new staff members. Qualifications
  • Committed Christian in good standing in a local church.
  • BA degree or equivalent in accounting or related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years payroll experience, preferably on ADP .
Skills
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently in order to communicate with vendors, and other outside customers.
  • Ability to learn new software quickly
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively
  • Able to utilize e-mail to communicate.
Software Software used by the Senior Accountant includes MAS90, ADP , QuickBooks, Excel, and Outlook and is subject to change based on the needs of the company and/or department. Physical Demands Must be able sit for long periods, bend and lean over file drawers, maintain a clean and safe workspace free of clutter and trip hazards, and operate a computer. Equipment Computer, 10 key calculator, telephone, copier/scanner, Work Environment The Senior Accountant will work in an office environment utilizing computers.
