Job Description :

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a key supporter of bipartisan postal reform, received praise from the U.S. Postal Service Inspector General for her leadership in putting the Postal Service on a financially viable path.

On April 23, 2012, Senator Collins released a statement regarding bipartisan postal reform legislation coauthored by Maine Senator Collins, aimed at reforming the U.S. Postal Service. A significant provision of the bill would ensure the continued operation of the Eastern Maine Processing Facility.

Senator Collins also emphasized the importance of the bipartisan postal reform bill she cosponsored with Senators Joe Lieberman, Tom Carper, and Scott Brown. Her remarks highlighted the Senate's ongoing debate on this legislation.

Additionally, Senator Olympia Snowe expressed opposition to the USPS's proposal to consolidate the Eastern Maine Processing and Distribution Facility during a public meeting in Brewer.

Furthermore, Senators Lieberman, Collins, Carper, and Brown responded to USPS's fiscal loss of $5.1 billion in 2011, discussing the financial challenges facing the Postal Service.

Senator Collins introduced a plan to stabilize the Postal Service, in collaboration with other senators overseeing postal affairs, including Senators Carper, Lieberman, and Brown, as part of the bipartisan 21st Century Postal Service Act of 2011.

Reflecting on postal legislation history, the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006 aimed to modernize the USPS for the 21st century.

Finally, Senators Lieberman, Collins, and Carper praised Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe for proposing a bold plan to prevent USPS's imminent bankruptcy, despite conflicting proposals from different Senate bills.

On July 26, 2011, Senator Collins issued a statement regarding USPS's announcement of nearly 3,700 post office closures, reaffirming her involvement in postal issues.
