Seasonal Laborer (Traffic Signs and Markings)Employment Type: 4 - Seasonal Pay Range: $20.00 - 23.36Location: Castle Rock, COOvertime Exempt: N Elected Office / Department: DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKSThe signs are everywhere.... you could be working on a teamthat keeps Douglas County beautiful, organized, and safe. As a Seasonal Laboreron the Douglas County Signs, Striping and Roadway and Markings crew, you willassist with the manufacture, installation and maintenance of the trafficcontrol signs and pavement markings that are essential to the community infrastructureand safety of the traveling public.Pay is $20/hour. This is seasonal work (March through November) and includes a 4-day work week during the summer (Monday-Thursday,7:00-5:30). As a temporary position, nobenefits are available.One day in the city, in the mountains the next... DouglasCounty is diverse and beautiful. Our Signs and Markings Team covers allunincorporated roads in the county, meaning that no day is ever the same forour Signs and Markings Team.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The followingexamples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)
  • Operates equipmentincluding forklifts, pickups, and single axle trucks.
  • Assistsin the manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of traffic controlsigns throughout unincorporated Douglas County in accordance with thelatest version of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Assistswith the installation of pavement markings throughout unincorporatedDouglas County in accordance with the latest version of the MUTCD.
  • Performsroutine maintenance and operation of equipment.
  • Abilityto obtain a Colorado Department of Transportation Flaggers CertificationCard within six weeks of employment.
  • OtherDuties: Will perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Works under close supervision, often as part of a crew.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:This position does not supervise otheremployees.INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT:The incumbent is assigned duties according to specific procedures.Work is checked frequently, and in additionthere may be formal training.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:A high school diploma or GED.Must be at least 18 years of age. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge:
  • Communication: reading, writing, speaking in the English language
  • Basic knowledge of traffic, signs, markings, equipment maintenance, and safety factors is required.
Skills:
  • Requires general computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office, including email for communication.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Operation of equipment and systems, including vehicles.
Abilities:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, manuals, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both oral and written form.
  • Ability to apply past knowledge and experience to formulate decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. This position has daily contact with county employees, supervisors, the public, other agencies and contractors.
CERTIFICATIONS,LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
  • Possession of Colorado drivers license at time of hire. A copy of Motor Vehicle Record is required at time of interview.
  • Must obtain a Colorado Department of Transportation Flaggers Certification within six weeks of employment.
WORKENVIRONMENT:Physical Work Environment: Workis mostly outdoors. The employee may be exposed to high speed/high volumetraffic and adverse weather conditions.Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to perform heavy work requiring frequent repetitive lifting of 70# to waist height and occasional lifting of 40# to shoulder height and above.
  • This position also includes frequent climbing with work at heights of 50' (bucket truck), frequent balancing, bending, squatting, reaching above shoulder height. Occasional reaching overhead, crawling and kneeling.
