Scientist Product Integrity Material Science

Under general guidance, works as part of the Materials Science team to support activities in developing and delivering innovative products to the Mary Kay independent sales force. Provides essential information to R&D partners through laboratory testing of package components, resin samples, or raw materials as part of New Product Development. Ensures accuracy and quality of testing data. Communicates effectively with peers, management, and R&D partners. Collaborates to meet project goals and organizational objectives.

About the Role:

Responsibilities:

  • Applies fundamental principles of Material Science. Acts as a primary laboratory resource with growing expertise in chemical and physical testing of materials used for packaging, including measurements of dimensions, force, or torque. Executes tasks under general guidance and consults on non-standard issues.
  • With guidance from SMEs, represents Material Science on NPD project teams for new ingredients. Collaborates with Product Formulation and senior experts to develop testing plans and specify ingredients. Evaluates project needs, resolves issues, and summarizes complex concepts for decision-making.
  • Demonstrates a mindset of continuous improvement. Evaluates work processes, proposes enhancements, and makes data-driven decisions within the discipline. Participates in initiatives supporting organizational goals. Provides updates on project status, challenges, and next steps to leadership.
  • Develops personal technical skills, stays informed about industry best practices and emerging technologies in chemistry, engineering, and Material Sciences. Seeks growth opportunities internally and externally.
  • Leads routine laboratory maintenance efforts.
  • This position requires on-site work at a Mary Kay facility.

Skills & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Material Science; Master's or Ph.D. preferred.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of industry experience; cosmetic, consumer product, food, or pharmaceutical experience preferred.

Additional Skills & Abilities

  • Strong foundation in Chemistry, Material Science, or Mechanical Engineering principles. Proficiency in basic analytical techniques. Familiarity with audit/inspection protocols, statistics, FDA, and GMP regulations is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills for explaining complex concepts, with strong written and presentation abilities for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Organized, detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and guidance.
