Position Summary

Solid Biosciences is seeking an experienced scientist to join our Downstream Process Development (DSPD) team. The DSPD team is responsible for the development, optimization, and technology transfer of the downstream purification processes of Solid's gene therapy portfolio. The candidate will collaborate across functions, working with Manufacturing Sciences & Technology, Analytical Development, R&D, and Upstream Process Development teams.

This role focuses on innovative research and engineering to develop advanced AAV purification technologies, emphasizing scalable methods to enrich high-potency AAV. As the company advances in gene therapy, tasks will include complex separations such as removal of partially-filled capsids and separation of PTM variants. The candidate should be capable of designing new DSPD research topics and executing experiments to achieve industry-leading product quality and cost efficiency.

The position also involves classical DSPD tasks, including programming ÄKTA FPLC methods, operating TFF skids, designing experiments, and applying scale-up principles.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and execute downstream experiments independently
  • Stay updated with industry trends through literature and patent research
  • Coordinate with vendors and partners to evaluate new technologies
  • Plan and perform purification processes such as pilot runs
  • Interpret analytical data and determine experimental directions
  • Collaborate with R&D to develop new purification schemes
  • Mentor junior team members in downstream techniques
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation for regulatory submissions and IP
Qualifications and Skills
  • 6+ years in downstream process development or relevant PhD with 2+ years industry experience
  • Experience with ÄKTA (UNICORN) method writing
  • Deep knowledge of chromatography (affinity, CEX, AEX, HIC)
  • Ability to formulate hypotheses and drive experiments to milestones
  • Experience with TFF skid operation
  • Proficiency in analytical assays for biologics, especially AAV
  • Experience with Design of Experiments software (JMP, MODDE, Minitab)
  • Knowledge of data science and machine learning techniques
Preferred Qualifications
  • AAV/gene therapy experience
  • Understanding of AAV biology and structure
  • Experience with unconventional chromatographic modalities
  • Automated liquid handling chromatography experience
  • Experience with tech transfer documentation
