Position is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors in assigned schools. Position assists the administrative staff with enforcing policies and procedures for safe and orderly schools at the building level. Assist administration in the effort to reduce unnecessary law enforcement referrals relating to issues that can best be addressed internally.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate, strategize, advocate, and implement, with district and school staff, students, parents and/or community partners, strategies to resolve safety concerns.
  • Use restorative practices to evaluate and address safety and security situations that negatively impact the school, when appropriate.
  • Models inclusive practices in all activities.
  • Serve as a member of a school's security and safety team, with a specific focus on relationship building, as well as protecting the life and wellbeing of students, staff, and visitors against threats on school property.
  • Works to create a safe environment during all activities and for all people while on District Property.
  • Head and manage non-emergency events and emergency crisis situations that arise on campus. Interface with first responders as appropriate in the management of events when appropriate.
  • Works with school administrators and law enforcement officials (when necessary) in handling student offenses and law violations.
  • Conduct emergency exercises, drills, and staff training.
  • Produces and maintains records, logs and reports.
  • Works to ensure safe practices at after hours events as necessary.
  • Address, with appropriate stakeholders, issues that impact the safety and security of the school or students and prepare support plans (Bullying, Threat Assessments, criminal code violations, Title IX etc.)
  • Possess high level of knowledge of the criminal justice system, local, state, and federal laws and ordinances and the ability to work closely with community partners.
  • Develops, delivers, and manages training programs on safety and security issues for school administrators, Campus Safety Monitors, students, staff, and community.
  • Respond to schools 24/7 for emergency response and crisis management.
  • Maintain all licenses and certifications required now or in the future.
  • School Safety Advocates coordinate with District Teams:
    • Conduct school based Threat Assessments
    • Compliance for mandatory reporter records
    • Prepare reports for bullying complaints
    • Title IX Investigations
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Associate's degree or some college credits in an area of study pertinent to the position requirements: Criminal Justice, Education, Social Work, or Human Services-related major.
  • Minimum of two (2) years within the last ten (10) years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer or similar experience in school safety and security.
  • Experience leading and/or coordinating teams.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Incident Command Systems and response ICS 100, ICS 200 required within two (2) years of entering position.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 300, 400 and 700 required within two (2) years of entering position.
  • Ability to obtain a CCW or qualify under 18 USC § 926C(c) for the purposes of carrying a concealed firearm if the District requires it at any time during employment. Must be able to pass all qualification standards.
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.

Salary Information:

Salary Range 5:$80,344.00 - $120,516.00

Salary Placementvaries according to experience and education.

*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process.
