A school nurse provides health care to students and staff and promotes a healthy school environment. They also help students succeed academically by identifying and removing health barriers to learning.
Job Duties
- Provide healthcare: Provide basic care for injuries and illnesses and develop care plans for students with chronic conditions.
- Conduct screenings: Perform regular health screenings to detect health problems early.
- Educate: Teach students, parents, and staff about healthy habits like hygiene and nutrition.
- Promote health: Advocate for the physical, mental, emotional, and social health of students.
- Ensure safety: Make sure the school is safe for students and staff by preventing the spread of communicable diseases.
- Ensure compliance: Follow local and national health laws.
- Update records: Keep track of students' vaccination records and medical histories.
- Administer medication: Administer medication to students with health conditions and maintain accurate documentation.
Qualifications
- RN or LPN with current credentials.
- Clinical knowledge and judgment.
- Strong commitment to the health and safety of students.
- Excellent communication, organization, and multi-tasking skills.
