MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Broome-Tioga BOCES Virtual Learning Academy/PLIC is seeking a dedicated and student-centered School Guidance Counselor to support high school students in grades 9–12 across multiple districts. This role is essential in ensuring academic progress, emotional well-being, and post-secondary readiness for students participating in the Virtual Learning Academy and early college access programs.
Review transcripts and determine required courses for new enrollees
Enter and maintain student schedules and grades in SchoolTool
Request and record incoming grades from home districts
Maintain up-to-date student transcripts and Regents exam lists
Participate in daily Student Success Team meetings to identify and address student needs
Contact families as necessary to support student progress and engagement
Be available to students experiencing academic difficulties
Serve as a liaison with district counselors regarding schedules, grades, and student needs
Distribute report cards and Regents exam lists (January and June) to district counselors
Send summer school recommendations and end-of-year transcripts
Partner with Access VR to connect eligible students to transition services
Support the BT BOCES Early College Access service by acting as a liaison with partnering Institutes of Higher Education and participating districts
Support other related PLIC services as needed
Job Qualifications
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
NYS Certification as a School Counselor
Strong collaboration skills
A commitment to meeting the needs of every student
A strong belief that all students can succeed
Strong use of instructional technology to meet student needs
Strong organizational, communication, and data management skills
A commitment to equitable access, college readiness, and student wellness
Experience working with high school students in a virtual or hybrid environment preferred
