SALARY RANGE: $69,900 - $101,355 Ad Valorem - 2.40 parish property (ad valorem) tax mills are dedicated to employee salaries. The annual receipts from this tax are distributed to employees twice a year, one-half in January and one-half in June. The amount of each employee's supplement is the employee's salary multiplied by the annual percentage (computed each year based on actual tax revenues). QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in counseling* from an accredited college or university approved by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Program (CACREP); *If the candidate completed a counseling program in another concentration other than in school counseling , six credit hours of school counseling courses from a CACREP-accredited program must be completed. Complete the required practicum of 100 contact hours and internship of 600 contact hours in a school setting from a CACREP-accredited program. Valid Louisiana Ancillary Certificate REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL: To support the academic and social-emotional needs of students, to implement school counseling curriculum; to provide response services and recommendations to students and families; to assist in the development of individualized plans and/or goals for each student; to embody, advocate, and operationalize the mission, vision, and direction of the school. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Individual Student Planning The school counselor uses school and student-level data to identify needs and helps students plan for their future in academics, career choice and personal/social development The school counselor provides accurate and timely information to parents and stakeholders about options for students. Individual student plans include specific actions and next steps for the student to move toward goals and develop planning skills. System Support The school counselor has created support services collaboratively with administrators. The school counselor provides relevant professional development to staff regarding the school counseling program. The school counselor seeks out professional development opportunities that address the needs of the school. The school counselor serves on departmental curriculum committees, district-level subject councils, community committees or advisory councils. The school counselor uses data to advocate for systematic change to reduce barriers to student learning. Responsive Services The school counselor counsels individual students and small groups of students with identified needs and concerns. The school counselor consults effectively with parents or guardians, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals. The school counselor develops and communicates an efficient referral process and implements it effectively with administrators, teachers, and other school personnel. Students and faculty are aware of procedures to initiate responsive services for themselves or other students. School Counseling Curriculum School counseling curriculum for all three domains has been written and adopted based on local site needs. All students have opportunities to engage with the school counseling curriculum to acquire knowledge, attitudes, and skills to enhance their academic, career and personal/social development. Curriculum success is regularly measured through tests, product creations, etc., and effectiveness of the curriculum is evaluated annually. Materials, equipment, and facilities are available to support the program delivery. The school counseling curriculum has been presented to and accepted by administration, counselors, and the school counseling advisory council. Other Duties and Responsibilities Creates and maintains accurate student records in a timely fashion Delivers at least one lesson per grade level to all students in each of the counseling curriculum domains Supports at-risk students at least once per quarter in both academic and socio-emotional domains Supports state testing procedures as designated by the school leader Oversees yearly student orientation and transition events for new students Provides a minimum of six activities which expose students to career and technical, as well as academic fields of study for students in grades six through eight Provides at least one career-focused activity that covers the high wage/high demand pathways to each grade level in grades nine through twelve Assists in the development of Individual Graduation Plans for incoming cohorts of students Advises and documents student course requests for incoming cohorts of students Collaborates with school leadership to create and maintain the school's master schedule Participates, as directed, in the life of the school, including student activities and events TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 212 Days/30 Extra - Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
