Purpose
The Production Planning Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning and scheduling function of our vertically integrated manufacturing process. This role ensures efficient production workflows, optimal resource utilization, and on-time delivery of high-quality products.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Production Scheduling: Develop and maintain comprehensive production schedules to meet customer demand while optimizing manufacturing capacity and minimizing lead times.
- Resource Planning: Coordinate the allocation of labor, materials, and equipment across sheet metal cutting, bending, welding, powder coating, panel laminating, case good fabrication, and refrigeration sub-assembly processes.
- Capacity Analysis: Analyze production capacity and identify bottlenecks, recommending solutions to improve throughput and efficiency.
- Inventory Management: Collaborate with procurement and inventory teams to ensure availability of raw materials and components, minimizing excess stock and shortages.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with engineering, quality control, and operations teams to align production plans with product specifications and quality standards.
- Process Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvements in planning and scheduling to reduce waste, enhance productivity, and improve delivery performance.
- Performance Monitoring: Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as schedule adherence, production efficiency, and on-time delivery rates.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of planners and schedulers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Technology Utilization: Leverage ERP/MRP systems and other planning tools to streamline scheduling processes and ensure data accuracy.
- Risk Management: Anticipate and mitigate risks related to production delays, supply chain disruptions, or equipment downtime.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in operations management, industrial engineering, supply chain management, or a related field. Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., APICS CPIM) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in production planning or scheduling, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within a manufacturing environment. Experience in sheet metal fabrication, welding, or refrigeration assembly is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including sheet metal cutting, bending, welding, powder coating, panel laminating, case good fabrication, and refrigeration sub-assembly.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with Epicor Kinetic is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to manage cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
