Minimum Qualifications Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarian's license plus one of the following: Three years of experience as a sanitarian; OR A master's degree in public health, food science, dairy science, environmental or sanitary science, or one of the physical or biological sciences plus two years of experience as a sanitarian. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: • Conducts inspections of retail food markets, restaurants, sewage systems, and waste disposal facilities to ensure compliance with the State Sanitary Code and protect public health. • Manages and directs inspections of institutions such as prisons, schools, daycares, and nursing homes to verify safe and hygienic living conditions. • Investigates and resolves complaints related to unsanitary conditions, nuisances, and public health hazards. • Administers and oversees parish-wide Sanitarian Services programs, including developing guidelines, tracking productivity, and preparing reports to meet program goals. • Leads emergency response activities (e.g., floods, hurricanes, contamination events) through surveillance, monitoring, and after-hours work when needed. • Collaborates with public officials, civic groups, and the community to address environmental and public health issues while maintaining professional expertise through training and continuing education.
