One source.Competitive Salary and Relocation Offered.This role is onsite in Roanoke, VA.Job Title: Safety Technician/CoordinatorLocation: Troutville, VADepartment: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)Reports To: Plant Manager / EHS ManagerCompany: Virginia Transformer CorpEmployment Type: Full-TimePosition Summary:Virginia Transformer Corp is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Safety Technician/Coordinator to support our Environmental Health & Safety efforts at our Troutville manufacturing facility. This role will help drive a culture of safety across the plant by conducting audits, delivering training, and ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety policies. This is a hands-on role that works closely with operations and production leadership to protect the health and safety of all employees.Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily safety walkthroughs and inspections across production, shipping, and maintenance areas to identify and correct potential hazards.
  • Assist in conducting incident investigations, gathering evidence, and preparing root cause analysis reports and corrective action plans.
  • Maintain and update safety documentation, including training records, safety data sheets (SDS), job hazard analyses (JHAs), and equipment checklists.
  • Support and track compliance with all Virginia Transformer safety programs including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, fall protection, and PPE enforcement.
  • Deliver and document safety orientations for new hires and contractors and assist in coordinating monthly safety training sessions for plant staff.
  • Serve as a first responder in emergency situations and coordinate emergency preparedness drills and procedures.
  • Help track key safety performance indicators (near misses, recordables, lost-time incidents) and prepare reports for leadership review.
  • Collaborate with production supervisors to address safety concerns and promote a culture of accountability.
  • Stay current on OSHA and state-specific regulations, and assist with compliance reporting or inspections as needed.
  • Support the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives related to safety processes and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of EHS or safety-related experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferably heavy industry or electrical equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA 1910 general industry standards.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to lead trainings and coach employees on safe behaviors.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • OSHA 10/30-hour General Industry Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 90 days).
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred.
