Position Summary

The Safety Manager is a key leadership role responsible for implementing and advancing Sceyes Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure safe and compliant execution of high-altitude flight and flight test operations. This position will lead safety initiatives, conduct risk assessments, and foster a proactive safety culture across all departments, with direct access to executive leadership.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead and Implement the SMS: Oversee the development, execution, and continuous improvement of Sceyes Safety Management System in accordance with 14 CFR Part 5, Part 101 Subpart D, and ICAO standards.
  • Promote a Safety-First Culture: Drive proactive hazard identification, safety participation, and risk-based decision-making across engineering, operations, test, and maintenance teams.
  • Coordinate Safety Communication: Serve as the primary liaison for internal safety reporting and external coordination with FAA and other regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct Data-Driven Safety Analysis: Lead analysis of flight test trends, safety data, and operational hazards to inform mitigation strategies and enhance safety performance.
  • Enhance Organizational Safety Competency: Partner with the Safety Committee (SC) to embed safety principles into all aspects of flight test and development operations.
  • Represent Sceye in Safety Forums: Participate in industry working groups and safety forums to contribute to the advancement of safety in high-altitude and experimental operations.
  • Exercise Operational Oversight: Conduct audits, safety reviews, and investigations; implement corrective actions; and, when necessary, halt unsafe operations.

What Youll Bring to the Role:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in aviation safety or in engineering, logistics, or transportation.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in aviation safety, with emphasis on flight test, R&D, or high-risk environments. Familiarity with ICAO Annexes, FAA Part 5, and experimental or non-standard airspace operations. Prior safety leadership in UAS, lighter-than-air, or high-altitude aviation programs is a plus. Background in QA, auditing, or project management is advantageous.
  • Attributes: Strong operational knowledge of aviation, airworthiness, and test environments. Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Leadership presence with the ability to influence across functions. High integrity, sound judgment, and a calm demeanor under pressure.
  • Communication & Decision-Making: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey safety concerns and make critical, time-sensitive decisions to protect personnel and assets.
  • Adaptability: Proven ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, proactively adjusting safety strategies to support evolving flight test objectives and organizational growth.
